If you mask all your details and spray clear coat over the lines it well seal the tape lines and omit the run factor, plus you can use a mat clear and it doubles as a primer! Don't worry about the mat finish as the body finish is very glossy! Ralphie

Just did my first RC body and I'm guilty of not having the patience for 4 thin coats. I do the first one light, then a heavier second. Third light touch up if needed. Used what I had on hand that went on my actual car which has held up so far with no chipping or peeling. It's the Rustoleum poly outdoor paint for furniture or equipment. Great stuff that should hold up to my abuse on the 1/10 scale 😁
@poorboysrc6 ай бұрын
I'm seeing more and more people use that same paint on their 1:1 cars. I'm curious how it'll hold up on lexan. Keep me posted! Maybe I'll do a video on it if it holds up well. 👊🏼

Awesome job Fil.. btw I learned from my hobby shop a couple weeks ago if you use ps55 clear as a base coat, you can use TS paints.. tge ts will stick to the ps paint, but you have to put that ps down first so it etches into the plastic 😊

I always wondered if that would work... I have used TS on top of PS before, and it adhered. I never thought of using PS clear, then spraying TS to it. Cool tip! 😎

Hi Fil, Thanks for the helpful video! I’m getting back into the hobby and picked up a Squash Van. Question: the paint on your Squash Van turned out really nice! Did you use the same techniques that you showed in this video - ie same masking tapes and stuff? Thanks from a new subscriber!
@poorboysrc5 ай бұрын
New Subscriber, right on! Thanks for coming on board, Simon. For the Von Squash, I used all the same tips and tricks that you see in this video. The key for a really crisp line between the two colors is to use the blue fine-line tape, and make sure it's seated really well before you start spraying. A hair dryer works perfectly to help the adhesion. When you're happy with that, the less expensive, wider tape can be used to mask of a large area, like the white part of the SV. Here's a quick link to some fine line. It's not 3M brand (which is what I use), but it's got good reviews, so it might be worth a shot. jinbing High-Temp Vinyl Fine Line Fineline Masking Tape Automotive Paint for Curves Blue (1/16 in +1/8 in Each 3Rolls) a.co/d/cRANfre

The one thing you did not mention when painting a body, but you did it. It is better to spray the darker colors first. White should be the last color you spray. Also you can use 3M blue tape for masking and it works well and is cheaper than Tamiya tape. I use the 3M blue painters tape for large areas and Tamiya tape in tight areas. However, I have used the 3M tape on everything and had no problems. Thoughts?
@poorboysrc Жыл бұрын
Absolutely a good point! I think I actually edited that part out by accident! Lol! The blue tape I discussed in the video is the same 3M blue autobody tape you're referring to. That stuff works great on RC bodies! 👍🏻

Hi, daft question but what’s the clear film you pull off at the end ? And how did you apply it?
@poorboysrc3 ай бұрын
Not daft at all, it's a good question. That's called overspray film. It's kind of a shrink-wrapped thin plastic thats applied to the body at the manufacturing facility. It's purpose is to keep overspray off the outside of the body during paint. If your body is missing it, you can always just mask it off the old fashioned way. 👊🏼😉
@darrengaynor49663 ай бұрын
Thank you, I’ve not had a model like this before only just realised you spray the underneath of the shell not the top like on the lunchbox etc .
@poorboysrc3 ай бұрын
@@darrengaynor4966 Oh, yeah definitely spray the inside of the body with clear (polycarbonate/lexan) bodies, and the outside with hard plastic shells. It's also very important that you use the proper paint. Tamiya PS paint for Polycarbonate/lexan and TS paint for hard ABS plastic.
@darrengaynor49663 ай бұрын
@@poorboysrc any tips on cutting out the body? Thanks for all your help
@poorboysrc3 ай бұрын
@@darrengaynor4966 just take your time, familiarize yourself with the lines you want to cut and those you don't, before you start cutting. A good pair of curved scissors can be a life saver. Some guys use xacto knives to cut, I don't use one often, but for long, straight lines (like under doors, side of the body) I do, and it works great. Just score an edge, then crack along the edge, don't cut right through. 👊🏼
