This is why I like your videos. You are not afraid to make a mistake (DON'T WORRY, EASY FIX) and then explain what went wrong and how to solve it. Other videos would trash the project and remake another one to show they ALWAYS know exactly what they are doing. Keep on man! Fantastic as always.

Fantastic video! Working on some big terrain pieces soon myself and this definitely looks better than the black, grey, then white drybrushing that I default to most of the time.

This is looking to be top notch, keep up the great work Luke! Can't wait to see how you do your water. I use cotton and modge podge to make some pretty sweet looking splash effects, might want to give it a whirl to really make the water jump! Looking forward to seeing the revierbed all said and done. :)

[at the date of this comment] At Lukes Aps they're £1 a bottle 59ml, on Amazon they're nearly £4 a bottle 59ml. My advice when trying to find cheap acrylic paints is to buy one tube of the same colour from different vendors and compare. I think it was Chiltern Acrylics from a pound shop....I could figure out how they actually had any colour to them they were that weak - good for staining flock etc, but little else! Buyer Beware. On the other hand, top of the range acrylic are maybe neccessary for fine artists, but for modelling/crafting they're a totally unneccessary expence. Cheers Luke for bringing this type of consideration to many 'on-a-budget' makers.

Just tried this on my slot track scenery. All was going really well until I used the black wash. Now, although it's looking quite realistic in some areas, overall it's still looking very brown. I've added 2 layers of black wash but it hasn't lightened up as yours has luke. What can I do to help certain areas lighten up a bit please.

One thing of note, this is a photo realistic technique. Its great for dioramas and trainsets. But in my experience most game miniatures and boards are painted in less realistic and more "Comic book" style art. This is why the black/grey/white rock and light green grass ends up working. I'm not saying one style is any better than the other. Its just different.

PaganShredhead, thank you, yes they do over a period of time but....if paint not marked as lightfast, they literally bleach out in sunlight. A coat of UV varnish will help with fade but not bleaching. I will have a look on these bottles when next in The Works.
@PaganShredhead
@PaganShredhead 6 жыл бұрын
I think you can get quite cheap facade (is that the word for the outside of houses?) paints that should hold up to direct sunlight (and more). I'm doing wargaming for about 17 years now, and I've never seen stuff fade or bleach out before it got worn down by use. If you're doing dioramas I'd recommend a spot in the room that's not getting hit by direct sunlight, same as you'd do with expensive paintings.
