Using OVEN-OFF oven cleaner is a lot easier to do. Spray it on, wait about 20 minutes then wash it off with a hose. No scrubbing. This comment is not meant as a criticism, just a tip for the future.

I painted my Jeep Patriot wheels gloss black with Rustoleum 3 years ago. No chipping or peeling yet. Still look great. Proper prep is the key.

I have some rusted pited chrome rims I'm painting black, good tips. I myself wouldn't of painted the rims you had they looked in great shape. But your happy that's what counts.

thanks for the help this was just as good as chris fixis vid but you used chrome wheels so it helped my know how to remove the paint even though chrisfix said it works on all wheels i was making sure and this video showed that so thanks! :)

Are u using a special paint. I heard u say self edging primer. If u don't mind what brand and what kind of paint for the wheels? Is it any spray paint. Because I would like to repair my chrome rims and repaint them chrome to get all the water stains and rust off. Would this be the same method for rechroming ?

Take a picture of what it looks like now because without using an epoxy primer or paint it's got to have paint missing and chipped off from the road.

My 95 F150 aluminum rims were aluminum, chromed, and clearcoated from the factory. I had to take off the thick clear coat with paint stripper before painting them. I would think these rims would be the same.

Regular paint won't stick to a non-porous surface such as chrome. You have to use a commercial paint such as Rustoleum's Tub & Tile Transformations or Sherwin-Williams marine coatings..,just speaking from experience!

First OF ALL...THOSE ARE NOT CHROME WHEELS..THEY ARE ALUMINUM WHEELS WITH NO CHROME ON THEM. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT METAL YOU'RE DEALING WITH.

While the process is pretty much the same, this isn't a "painting over chrome" video. That's polished alloy, so it's definitely going to hold up a lot differently that painted over chrome plating. It's also why a lot of people don't think enough prep work was done. If it were actual chrome, it would've taken much longer to prep. Still a good video and result though.
