In today's video we're teaching you how to paint a Tyranid Harpy, using just drybrushing (pretty much)! These techniques can be used for all shelled or skinned Warhammer and Warhammer 40k miniatures though, and are especially relevant to the large monsters we all love so much!
The majority of this model was painted with the XL Drybrush from our Series D range, pick yours up here, now! (Shipping worldwide) store.artis-opus.com/collecti...
This video goes pretty in depth, we've provided a lot of extra information on where you may go wrong with this techique, how to spot it, and how to fix mistakes (I make a big one... blobbing white all over my previous, just-finished wings!). The painting tips and tricks come thick and fast, and the end result is great!
Let us know below what you'd like to see us use the 'soft' (skin) or 'hard' (shell) drybrushing technique on next!

it's probably because of the clickbaity titles/thumbnails or because it's one of those videos that, as you pointed out, aren't available straight away. i don't understand why this channels keeps using the clickbait-oriented titles and thumbnails - it feels so out of place on a channel like this, with its mostly mature audience. then there's the problem with "scheduled" videos. when i see a video in my feed i assume i can watch it straight away - but then when i click on it it says i have to wait 17 hours or whatever the time would be, which is extremely annoying. luckily, out of the hundreds of channels i follow, only a very few use the scheduled videos-thingy. but yeah, it always drives me nuts :P i'm not petty enough to leave a dislike on this video for the reasons i mentioned though, but i certainly understand if people would. if the clickbaitiness gets too out of hand i typically just unsubscribe from that channel (squidmar's videos i barely watch anymore for that reason, as an example :P).

@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 2 жыл бұрын
Oh really? It was just experimenting, really - it's basically paint + water, so you encourage the tidal marks/tea stains/coffee stains, normally you'd do everything possible to avoid them (use of washes, mediums, transparency), but if you want them it's pretty easy to reverse-engineer!

A lot of people I have seen attempt this drybrush method have tried using shortcuts and wonder why they aren't getting similar results. They aren't remembering when to moisten the brush, which direction to draw the bristles, when to buff, when to use diluted paint vs very dry paint, etc. This may be "drybrushing", but it's an advanced methodology. Drybrushing (and washing) isn't just for beginners.
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 2 жыл бұрын
Well, it is very procedural... If people don't ignore the steps and YOLO it is absolutely beginner friendly. The problems come when people stop concentrating on following the method, it is systematic, you just need to follow the steps, with a little understanding of why they are what they are. The last bit is something we will introduce more, the theory is important

NIDS! for ten thousand years we have waited and now the glorious day is here! Those wings look awesome! Definitely going to be trying this out on my next set of wings (hive tyrant). perhaps an odd question, but how do you approach the bulk of the tail? I've been finding mine look a little bland compared to the rest of my mini. Do you highlight parts of it? I do wish there was more texture on them to break it up a bit
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 2 жыл бұрын
Good question mate, just stipple it, and make the most of the texture at either end, wash, and then drybrush the ends and the 'top' up a little, be patient, you'll be surprised how well it turns out :)

"This is why people like dropper bottles..." Yeah, except that the tip sometimes pops clean off while dropping paint onto the palette, the tip gets easily clogged, the paint separates way worse in the narrower bottles with pre-diluted paint where I can't control the density, etc. There are pros and cons to each. "But Pro Acryl tips don't clog!" Nope, but they make an absolute mess every time you twist them closed. That aside, these have definitely been one of the better designs to-date. No one makes the perfect bottle design yet.
