Your talent and your attention to the details found in your paintings are incredible. Your ability to convey your thought process in creating your pieces are appreciated and one to be respected. You teach us how we can work with ideas, colours and make a creation of our own. I really enjoy the longer videos, packed with valuable information. Thank you so much for sharing with us.

Thanks alot for the kickstart and inspiration you have given me. I will soon start a new painting along one of your tutorials to keep challenging myself and learning new skills!

Your videos are incredibly helpful, and informative. The best I've found. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your knowledge and talent. I learn so much from watching your videos. Your explanations are clear, and you tell us the colors on the pallet, the brushes you use, the size of the canvas, the starting point, the goals and subject matter. Having all of that information, while you are demonstrating the techniques makes for really engaging, and useful lessons. Also, kudos to your presentation. The videos are well made, well edited, the audio is clear and all very concise. Thanks again.

Beautifully done! Siena is a city full of images just waiting to be painted. It has become my second home, and the subject of much of my work. Just an FYI for anyone interested...The restaurant that you used for reference is called La Finestra, and it is in the Piazza Del Mercato behind the Tower. The food is great, and it is owned by a lovely family! Keep the videos coming!

Now that I'm virtually unemployed with this Covid shelter in place business, I've picked up my paint brushes again after 14 years. Painting was always a hobby for me and I have never taken lessons. Some of the concepts I've struggled with you have covered nicely in this video - perspective, tone, and adding detail. I just wanted you to know that you have inspired me and have given me a way to paint with more confidence. This is one of the best instructional videos I have seen on KZfaq. Thanks.

This is beautiful. Thank you. I’m kinda forced to do a painting of my Grans Terraced house door totally from memory. The last time I saw it was in around 1983. I know it won’t be there now, because the house was only one up one down with an outside loo and what Gran used to call, her pantry. Which was a tiny, tiny kitchen with a bath room and sink squeezed in at the back. A family of six lived here. It was never the less a very happy home filled with happy memories for me and as it was, will be a historical interest for our village, so it’s a painting I just have to doc. I’ve got the sketch down and long at it sudden makes it tangable again and I found myself thinking I should visit my gran again. I had a few tears too, I have to say, drawing and painting your precious memories is filled with many emotions but worth it.

Andrew! You are soooo awesome! Thank you! I was fortunate to earn a wonderful merit scholarship in year 2000 to spend a semester in Florence, Italy and it is most certainly a highlight of my life! When I returned I was offered a highschool teaching position before I graduated with a BFA, BA and teaching certification. I am retired now and have been spending this last Summer building my Art Studio that I love soooo much! It has been so much time since I tried oil paints but you have given me perfect instructions and up-to -date material selections! 2021 is going to be my awesome year for painting for myself...I don't know if I care about exhibitions as I used to...I am going to have my Fine Art expressions as I want to without any outside pressure! It is because of Artist's like you that this is possible for older Artists as I am! I love you, young man! You are cool!

Hi Andrew, I'm amazed at the level of details you've achieved in this small painting. Well done. You've become a real inspiration to many of us on KZfaq and I'd like to say thank you for bringing your own brand of complexity, simplicity and honesty to present day oil painting and including us in your process. My wife and I are preparing to become full time professional artist next year and anything we can learn about doing things ourselves are gold. I don't know if you frame your own paintings but I'd love to see a video of you framing a stretched painting. God's grace to you, your family and your career.

I struggle with my paintings because I am a self taught and just turned 70 years old. But I will not give up. I am trying so hard because painting is my passion. I have been painting since I was 13 years of age, but been poor, and then later on raising a child on my own was not the time to pursue my passion. Very interesting video. Very interesting for sure. I've just done a row of shops in the UK from a photograph taken in 1925. The main point of interest was the butcher's shop display. Back in those days they hung all the meat for sale outside so the customers could see all the stock. It included, six pigs heads, about ten chickens hung on hooks, below them were about 15 pigs carcasses and below them again were about ten huge carcasses of beef. In front of all that lot was a table two foot high with a ton of meat on display. Then stood by this huge display was the owner in his "plus fours" suit, his twelve year old son and the owners own father. Then there was three members of staff. Above the shop was the "name board" with name of the owner on in big letters. Above the name board was a lot of masonry and moldings that was really complicated to do. So I had dozens of dead straight lines Things line drain pipes, masonry, name boards, windows, doors and doorways. Then there was a lot the shadows that needed to be thought out. Andrew I notice you did your straight lines "free hand" I couldn't do that in this painting. So I used masking tape and Sharpie extra fine point pens to get the exact detail. I then shaded everything in with oil paint so that it looked exactly right. The six characters in the piece were all required to be miniature portraits of the customer's family. That meant I had six heads to paint that were about one inch high. The eyes were so tiny I ended up using the sharp end of a tooth pick dipped in raw umber to paint the eyes. I'm 75 and my eyes are still OK, but I still needed to use my x4 magnification spectacles so I could see exactly what the hell I was doing, when painting the tiny portraits. All this took me three weeks. The painting was about three foot by about two foot six. Today - April 2021 I delivered the painting to the customer and he couldn't believe his eyes. His face lit up with pleasure He just kept staring at it. It's a great feeling Andrew when you can see a person really likes the finished painting. I'm sure you get that feeling many times yourself. Anyway I got paid 10,000 Baht ($330) so off I went to Makro to get a months supply of groceries and then to Pattaya Klang to get three new canvasses. There's a guy coming tomorrow from Bangkok and he wants me to paint a picture of the Buddha that the Taliban blew up in Afghanistan about twenty years ago. So, life's NEVER boring. And thank god for that. Kind regards to you Andrew and keep up the good work ! - Chris in Thailand go2ssff@gmail.com
