Great job mate for using spray cans and doing it in your garden. So easy for grit, dust and bugs to end up on the paint at all stages. For that reason and because its such a big panel, and using so much paint, I couldnt advise people enough to go to a pro. It could be about the same expense but without the potential mistakes and hassle

Hello Jack what an amazing compliment. I'm not in the paint trade myself my trade is electronics engineering or should I say was as I've quit that now. I've always been naturally good at fixing things so that helps but I do believe anyone new could learn this quite easily the hardest thing is having a good environment to do the work mine was done in my back garden in a Gazebo

@@The_journeyy I've mucked around with painting cars and what not. A bunch of people have asked me what I think of those videos on youtube of people doing it out of a can... The videos you see, which are the best results, are proffessionals. I wouldnt never do this with a can, there's literally no point. A paint job like this would be lucky to last a few years before issues arise... So best to do this kind of thing just before you trade it in haha. Im studying EE aswell and just happen to be the kind to give anything a go.

Looks great! I'm going to spray my bonnet when the weather get warmer. So I have got questions. Do you recommend that I should spray the bonnet inside the booth? I have a car roof that need to spray but I can't spray on it because my car is in a private car park so what can I do? How many times can I spray with primer, paints and clear coat? Do I need to rub 1000 grit sandpaper before I primer it and after? How I can stop put too much black paint on the bonnet? How warm can I spray it inside the booth? I'd it 18c to 20c if it should be good enough?
@The_journeyy
@The_journeyy Жыл бұрын
For best results I'd spray it in the booth I'd get a body shop to sort the roof out its not possible to spray the roof in a car park Best results 3x each coat of primer, paint and clear If your unsure about how to get even coats of paint there's videos on here explaining how to know how much to put it's best to practice on a small area like a piece of cardboard so you get comfortable For spray cans I'd have a look online temperatures are on there In terms of prep and doing the job the video shows the process step by step I didn't use 1000 grit sandpaper I used 400,600,800 grit all items and quantities are in the description

I am not able to sand it after primer. When I sand it the primer is coming off. Why is the primer coming off ?.
@The_journeyy
@The_journeyy Жыл бұрын
There could be so many factors causing that to happen most common are: 1:You've not allowed the primer to dry properly and your sanding it too early 2:Your sanding the primer too hard and your putting to much pressure the whole point of sanding the primer after it's dried is too flatten it out and make it smooth using water you give it a light sand with 800grit 3:You've skipped a step and sprayed the primer without prepping the surface 4:Your using the wrong primer for the material your painting There is many other reasons why that could be happening but the common causes for that will be because something isn't being done correctly

£500 is actually a really good price. On the inside of the door usually they will be the paint code for you car if not there it should say where if you type the car name on Google, mine was gloss black which is just a standard black so it was cheap to get the cans £4.95 each. Typically you need about 2 cans of each for the bonnet if its quite big. A wing usually needs about 1 can and bumpers usually about 2 all my cans I picked up from the local auto body shop. I've recently refurbished four wheels and that only needed one can of each to give you an idea how much you can do with a can. If you have any other questions just let me know 😊

Hi there thanks for the kind words, the grey under the gold sounds like the primer Roughly for yours you will need 1 - Tack Rags 1- 3M Facemask 1 - Proxl 2K Clear 1 - 80,120, 240, 400,600 & 800 Grit Sandpaper Wet and Dry - 2 - Self Etching Primer - Grey or Black would be good since your colour is gold 1- Paint Wipes Or Panel wipe 2- Gold colour matched paint from your local autobody shop Sand the bonnet with the 80 grit sandpaper until its Dull and not shiny, move up in grades sand with 120,240,400,600 Clean the bonnet with soap and water and allow to dry fully 1-2 hours, clean it with panel wipe and allow it to dry properly for like 15 - 30 minutes roughly before laying down the first coat of primer leave the primer to dry fully between coats 30 - 45 mins typically in nice weather conditions 25 degrees or higher is nice conditions or a nice warm garage - Once all three coats of primer are done I would recommend leaving the primer until the following day or if your in a nice hot place continue after 3-4 hours Sand the primer with 800 grit sandpaper lightly so it feels nice and smooth clean the bonnet with soap and water and allow to dry fully 1-2 hours again and then clean with panel wipe and allow it to dry for like 15-30 minutes before laying the first coat of gold paint allow it to dry 30 - 45 minutes between coats. once you've done the last coat leave to dry for roughly an hour before putting on the coats of clear Between the coats of clear I left it roughly an 1 hour and 15 minutes the times are rough guidance if you live in a cold place your times will be longer but if your doing your work on a nice hot day they could be slightly less This was one video I watched before I started painting its good kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ldWndMVy3J2qg3k.html but for your job it will require the steps I mentioned at the beginning of this paragraph since the condition of the paint on your hood is not smooth hope that helps Once you painted the hood it will need compounding and polishing I did that on this video at 8.49 seconds kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ipmcYN1oyry7YGQ.html If you've got some pictures or any other questions just shoot me over an email all the best

Sounds like it is even worse than the one I had for this car, if its new chances are it will come primed so if that's the case a nice gentle went sand with 800 grit just to soften the primer and then you can throw the paint and clear on If it comes and its got lots of chips on the primer which they tend to you'll have to sand with 400 grit and then 600 grit and then you can throw your primer coats on and then was nice and dry a llight sand with 800 grit wet and dry and then throw your paint coats on and then your clear and it will be done hope that helps Jasson 👌

how come your spraying on so thick and it does run? also ive done my bonnet 3 times now from different video advice and it never comes out shiny like that.
@The_journeyy
@The_journeyy 2 жыл бұрын
What you see in the video is dramatically different to what the eye sees in real life the coats are not thick they're just right it's about getting the right balance of coverage whilst not going to heavy hence why I get no runs. I had the same experience its because half the videos on here skip steps and are awful with all respect hence why I made this video. If your job is coming out dull there's only three main causes for that the first being not flattening the primer with 800 grit have you done that?

1000 grit is a bit fine but should still do the job probably just needs a few more minutes of sanding, the next issue that causes that kind of result is not very good paints and clear are you using a 2k clear coat? 😁

How many 440ml cans of colour coat will it take for a rear bumper to be painted in white colour?
@The_journeyy
@The_journeyy 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the size of your car but let's assume for example like me your painting a normal hatchback bumper like a MK5 Polo bumper which I've done in the past on my old Polo and I'm doing on the current one I used Mr Aerosol which are 500ml cans and I needed two cans of the primer and paint and one of 2k clear

Have a look in this videos description it will show the things I used but its pretty much: Grease remover I used panel wipe Self etching primer Clearcoat 2k Colour matched paint Tag rags Sandpaper 80grit going up I've not gone as deep down as bare metal in the past I've just used the 80 grit to make sure its roughed up properly which is what most people do I hope this helps if not I've got a video coming out next week which shows the process I used to respray some steel alloys that might help.

@@The_journeyy It's just that when I worked in a coach company wet and dry were always used, sandpaper would normally disintegrate with water. I was never a sprayer so I am no expert and it wasn't a criticism, just saying.

@The_journeyy
@The_journeyy 3 жыл бұрын
I've never sanded all the way down back to bare metal on anything before it would take a lot of time and then you'd have to add extra steps for prep, depending on the condition of your bonnet if the reason you wanted to paint it was a few stone chips you could just touch them up or if you just wanted the bonnet to be perfect I'd sand it down until the paint was nice and dull using 400 grit be careful round the ends of the bonnet sand them gently and then 600 grit to make it nice and smooth before you lay some etch primer and then all your coats after would do the job hope thats helpful 😊

Could you tell what time you wait between the coats of primer, paint and the clear coat, thanks in advance:)
@The_journeyy
@The_journeyy 3 жыл бұрын
30 minutes between each coat of primer, once all coats have been done I wait until the following day to sand the primer flat with 800 grit could be done on the same day I just prefer to leave it. Then 30 minutes between basecoats once all the basecoats are done leave it one hour before starting to lay on the clear for the clear typically an hour or so between coats. If your painting in a garage wait times are much better but unfortunately not all of us have that luxury I did this job in my garden :)

On my mine in total it probably took me half a day if that, drying times are always going to be slightly different depending on the products your using and where your doing the job if I had my own garage and some infrared lights I could have cut the time down in half but unfortunately for me I didn't have those things available to me 😊
