How To Pallet Buster
Hey guys on this weeks edition of BS with AJ I show you how I made a Pallet Buster! Its a really handy tool that makes tearing down pallets easier and faster! You can buy these online and Ill add a link below where you can buy one if you don't have the means to build one yourself.
Pallet Buster: amzn.to/2CtxG3V
Tools/ Material used:
Flux core welder - amzn.to/2S0lMnr
Slag Hammer - amzn.to/2CV7fW4
Auto Darkening Welding Hood - amzn.to/2pZqFQW
Wire Brush - amzn.to/2CtziKY
1 1/2 square tubing - amzn.to/2S2wIkr
2 x 2 angle - amzn.to/2CtyjKP
Grinder - amzn.to/2PKE4HS
Cut off Wheels - amzn.to/2q1gJX6
Sanding Disk - amzn.to/2CVEkkF
Welding Gloves - amzn.to/2pZRpRd
Face Shield - amzn.to/2R4Ab0R
safety glasses - amzn.to/2yp8h8G
Compound square - amzn.to/2S0qJg1
The first step was to get the material needed. I used 2 inch angle and 1 1/2 inch square tubing because that's the material I had available, these sizes are not required, just use what ever you have. Next I cut a piece of square tubing to 7 1/2 inches and cut two pieces of angle to 7 inches. these pieces would make up the head of my pallet buster. Now I set my angles facing inward and and set the piece of tubing inside the angles flush with one side, then I marked where the tubing came to on the angle. Next I cut the two angle pieces as shown in the video leaving a square piece on the one side slightly larger than the square tubing, this will allow us to weld all around the square tubing giving it lots of strengthen.
Next I used the sanding disk/ flapper wheel, which ever you decide to call it, and I sanded down all the sharp edges and cleaned up all the areas I would be welding. Now the welding process began, I set the square tubing in place between the two angles making sure it had an even gap between the angles all the way between them. Then I tacked it all in place. If using a flux core welder be sure to knock all the slag off and use a wire brush to clean the weld each time before you weld over it. Its easier to weld going down hill or flat which is why you see me continually move the piece I was welding. I made sure to do a good root weld ( the first pass) and then I came back over each weld a second time to be sure it had plenty of strength.
Once the head was all welded up it was time to use the sander to remove any spatter and to clean off the rest of the paint so I could weld the handle on. Now it was time to work on the handle. Instead of welding the handle on at a 90 degree angle I decided to weld it at a 45 degree angle. To do this I had to cut a notch in the tubing, I used a compound square to mark two 45 degree angles making a triangle and cut them out of two opposite sides. Then I cleaned up the edges and sanded off the paint so I could weld it together.
I marked the center of the Head of the pallet buster and held it in place while I put a tack weld on it, Then I flipped it over and put a few more tacks on it before I welded it solid. Next I went around and welded the handle into place being sure to put a good root weld and then coming back over for a second pass. After its all welded up I let it cool and then tested it out! And it worked great! Afterwards I wend ahead and painted it all yellow, mainly because that was the color of the handle already lol.

i used old truck leaf spring to make a pallet tool...which at first worked wonderfully then "Ting" the leaf spring snapped right near the weld, I re-welded and re-enforced... once i came near a hard pallet, it snapped the steel spring again,,, so this time going to use thicker steel, I aready have a quad bar wrecking tool which works wonderfully, but it breaks a lot of the wider pallet slats. it also is short whih causes back strain... it has a nail remover built in which is Funderfull

Build Stuff with AJ ..the only issue with pallets here in Australia is a lot are made out of pine and rubbish wood so a lot ends up being kindling fire wood in winter , the boards that are good make some handy garden beds,work benches, and heaps more so I love the pallet pry bar it beats the hammer and jimmy bar any day .👍

They are really handy! This is the first one I've used and it only took 5-6 mins to tear that pallet apart. The last one I tore down took about 30 or more mins and alot of the boards split.

The only issue is that I see is the 45 degree angle handle. It will make you bend over more when prying. Perhaps, a 22.5 or 15 degree angle would be more suitable, if you really want an angle on your “pallet buster”. 🤷‍♂️
@BuildStuffwithAJ
@BuildStuffwithAJ 2 ай бұрын
That might help out, But honestly mine works pretty well like it is, My only problem with it is how heavy it is lol. It comes in handy sometimes but after using it for a while it wears you out lol
