This stuff is hard. For everyone still struggling just know that I’ve been doing parkour for over a decade and I STILL have problems perfectly rolling on concrete
@anthonypolonkay2681
@anthonypolonkay2681 3 жыл бұрын
Same here. Been over a decade for me as well. And I have the same problem. Personally I am starting to think there is no solid way to avoid hitting that hip bone on stuff like concrete. I think the technique is more geared towards making sure you don't hit it so hard that its detrimentally painful. At least when it comes to using the role to get out of big drops anyways. I have found that the huge momentum you have just makes it impossible to get a pain free smooth roll. And if you do it was more luck than anything. Your job is to just make sure you do t hit anything so hard your in agony over it.

@christcarsandcountry6812

Consider just letting your hands get callused. It sucks, but it'll make them way more resilient to pain and scratching in the long run.

@blaqoD

I find that practicing and coaching rolling backwards and forward in a mirrored fashion gives way to connecting the stages more smoothly and with minimum pain. Start with backward roll, keeping your chin to chest to avoid hitting the back of the head, and after finishing the backward roll immediately (without modifying stance) go into forward roll. Basically by thinking of forward roll as a reverse backward roll you can adjust more easily the contact strip of the body and reduce required repetitions to deliver a painless forward roll. The glutes and QL connection is better done with a backward roll (we're more used to lean backwards in bed when going to sleep, for instance, than rolling forward over our scapula and rhomboid). Also, bare in mind that having some muscles on the back and glutes and proper posture (e.g. no winged scapula, no lumbar lordosis) is A BIG PLUS because the muscles act as a cushion.

I think these will be needed to be learned in school with more importance than sports in the gym class..learn to fall safer will be used to any people in their normal life, than throw a ball, the same like basic self defense, similar than aikido, who need a attack from the other and it's not a way to attack other people, only a way to aboid the attacks from others, and aboid hurt more than imprescindible to the other end attacking you..
