This video will go through everything to think about as you prepare for NBEO Part 3, the last part of optometry boards.
Disclaimer: Advice is based on my personal experience with nbeo part 3. While objective, it is still opinion based advice. I, by no means, have any insider knowledge of what exactly will be on a future NBEO exam. I have not discussed any specific test materials with any of my peers. In this video, I only share my personal experience of my NBEO Part 3 exam that does not reveal test information such as "diagnosis of my patient" or any questions that the proctor may have asked me.

Good tips on examination. Thank you for making this video. Do you have any tips how to prepare for florida law exam?
@andreasoptometry

You’re welcome! And sure! If you go to www.optometry.org/exams/osle and then click FL, then in the middle of the page you’ll see the 3 statute links. This is your “study material”. You could study it if you wanted to….BUT it’s open book, so I think a good idea is to at least familiarize yourself with the structure of the “law passages” that way you don’t feel overwhelmed when you take the exam because there’s so much text to browse through. A good tip is once you click on one of the statues, click the “view entire chapter” on the upper right corner of the page. That will put the WHOLE chapter in one page, which makes it easy to find things with CTRL-F search function, rather than having to click on each link to manually look for it. So I would say don’t stress too much on knowing the material, just know how to easily find whatever you’re looking for from the numerous sources you have. One more thing, you find out your score instantaneously when you take it. You’ll probably be fine, but if you happen to fail, you might have enough time that you can pay and take it again that instant without having to reschedule. One of my friends did that, he passed on the second try but he was only there for one day

Yeoo can u talk about novas 5 year program and how it differs from the 4 year program. Do u know any student who went through it? Maybe u can make a video interview with that person? I would love to watch it. Would really consider a lighter load 5 year OD program
@andreasoptometry
@andreasoptometry 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I know somewhat about the program but I have a friend that did the 5 year program so he may be a better person to ask. Email me at doctorandreas94@gmail.com and I can connect you with him then. A video interview would be cool haha but likely difficult to pull off considering covid, but I think simply asking people that have done it would be more helpful

Hi Andreas! First of all, I would like to Thank you for everything you do on your channel. It is very helpful and informative for those who need to take boards. I truly appreciate your work. I could try to add a couple of new subscribers to your channel if you are interested. Let me know please. Andreas, where in Florida do you practice? Which area? (If you don’t mind me asking of course). Did you graduate from NSU? -Dasha OD

I heard Tampa Bay Area is beautiful! About me, I have been practicing Optometry for the past few years in another state, NY. Although currently on my way to Florida for good (Miami at first). It was a very drastic and unplanned change of Permanet residence. Unfortunately, I have to retake Part 2, Part 3 and take Part 4 as I took them more than 3 years ago, and score high, as you know, especially for part 3, and as fast as possible (can’t work in Florida until I get my license here). My problem is I don’t remember how to do many procedures and how to talk them through. I’ll study your script for sure. But I need to practice in order to pass the board. And I have no idea where and how as I don’t have any connections here. Andreas, do you have any idea what can I do to prepare for part 3, to practice for the practical? The only thing I was considering is contacting someone in NSU, who is in charge of the lab, and ask they to help and allow me to come in and practice with the fellow students who is preparing for part 3. I just don’t know who to contact at NSU. Would you please help me with that? I would greatly appreciate it. Or if you have any colleagues who can help me with that. (Anyone in Miami/Fort Lauderdale area practicing Optometry, who I can be a help in their office , and they can let me practice at the same time). Or any other ideas how I can pull it off. Btw , I have graduated from SUNY College of Optometry. I would be very thankful for your help Andreas. I can give you my phone number or email. Let me know please

I’m excited for you for the Florida move! It’s really nice here! However I’m bummed to hear about you having to retake 2,3,4. 2 you know as an OD so that’s not a problem for you, 4 isn’t bad either cause it’s open book. For 3 yes definitely look over my script it helps you step by step. I’m at work rn so I’m pretty preoccupied but my email is doctorandreas94@gmail.com. When I get the chance I’ll email one of my professors from NSU and see what they can do. Alternatively I can see if anyone in the area can help as well. Send me an email just saying it’s you, and I’ll try to keep you posted tonight about what’s going on. Again this is gonna be super annoying to go through but at the same I’m excited for you, Florida is great and a lot of opportunity for work for sure :) And thank you for the subscribers!!! I really appreciate it!!

Thank you! Question:) For case history, can you ask the questions as though you do not have the form infront of you? For example “do you have any allergies” vs I see it says you have allergies. What are they?
@andreasoptometry
@andreasoptometry 2 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome! And you bet! I would think that pretending that you don’t have the form with you would be more authentic, plus it’s easier for you to practice that way (since you won’t know what the form will say come exam time). Just practice asking those questions!

Hi Doc! I'll be attending optometry school in the fall and wanted to ask you a question. I know it may be too early for me to stress about the NBEO part 3, but will they fully train us before we take this exam? Im currently working as a tech and i notice it takes me alott of time to learn how to use a machine( it took me weeks to get pachymetry down haha and im still struggling with goldman tonometer) So im worried about falling behind lol
@andreasoptometry
@andreasoptometry Жыл бұрын
Hi Nella! Sorry for the late reply. Yeah way too early to stress over part 3! In optometry school, they teach you how to use all the equipment within the first two years! Let me put it this way: I had ZERO experience with machines before optometry school, first time I Goldmann tonometer was during school

For BIO and the +2D lenses, does that mean you need to use a shorter working distance? I'm also trying to pass well to get a Florida license
@andreasoptometry
@andreasoptometry 2 жыл бұрын
Yes if your current BIO does not have any lenses, then chances are you’re holding your BIO with your arms stretched out. If you then switch to one that has a +2.00D, you may have to bend your arms more to shorten the WD

@@andreasoptometry Hi doc, do you have to include things like "I am sitting 40 cm from the patient at eye level" or "i am covering the right eye looking for movement in the left eye" etc? Like explaining what you're actually doing. I know it's video recorded so technically they should be able to see that, but i noticed your script didnt include that and some others Ive seen did, so I didnt know if that was something that should be said when youre performing each skill.
