Can you elaborate a bit on why not? Security + from what I see does not have the pen testing info that does CEH. Even from a lab perspective two completely different animals. I understand the cost portion, but for a position for pen testing who would a company hire someone with security + or Ceh ?

If only HR evaluated candidates based on simulation tests instead of whether one has a worthless piece of paper. Unfortunately HR is the filter into the company so if they want CEH and you have a more respected cert like OSCP, you are not getting through those doors.

I studied Cognitive Science at UCSD and I can say most of what she says is true with respect to the spacing effect, and retrieval. Unfortunately, I did take that particular class on learning during my last quarter there---changed my entire perspective on education. I am, however, applying it to the CEH. Understanding the concepts out of the book is great (if you can pick up on it), but not so much as doing the CEH labs (which is what the concepts revolve around). According to the CEH rep. (whom my classmate spoke to over the phone) suggested doing the labs twice will increase your chances of success. But nonetheless practice, Practice, PRACTICE.

Why do you suggest Security+ over CEH? I have yet to take either exam but I took courses for both in college and sadly covid happened right as I finished them so I had to wait to take them. From my perspective on the material, Security+ seems like an introduction for those who have 0 experience in information security while CEH is more advanced. I hesitate to take Security+ because based on cyberseek a lot of candidates have it while few companies are looking for it. If I should not get CEH just because it isn't as credible maybe I should just skip both and go for CISSP or equivalent. I would appreciate some insight into this.
@nicoleenesse
@nicoleenesse 2 жыл бұрын
CISSP is REALLY advanced. if you are new to the field, I would not go the CISSP. Security+ will give you really good base knowledge and is great for people with no experience. It will also introduce you to various fields in security+, and from there you can choose which niche you want to go into
@husky980
@husky980 9 ай бұрын
You need 5 years commercial experience to be CISSP certified. Taking and passing the exam prior to that will just get you the Associate certification for CISSP. Security+ is an entry level exam for someone with 0 experience in security whilst CEH is far more technical typically it’s recommended to have 2 years commercial experience before taking it. But yeah CEH is regarded significantly better than COMPTIA security+ CISSP is something any cyber security consultant worth their salt has once they’ve got passed 5 years experience
@MoMoCow
@MoMoCow 9 ай бұрын
@@husky980 I have taken both Security+ and CEH and imo they are almost both equally useless. They have the same content and teach very little useful skills. The only thing I got out of either was a little bit about risk management. That was what I was really confused about. I think a beginner would get far more out of CEH even though some might suggest its too "technical". Its bottom of the barrel

I'm actually seeing over 5k pages of material in the CEHv11. How would you 'scope' and know what's important? Though understanding the facts is important, I realized there are many 'fancy' terms they like to use which is a pain in the a** for me to remember and god knows when they gonna test that on the exam or find similar words in exchange to twist your recalling memory(like john the ripper or jack the ripper etc.). I actually prefer CISSP study material over this now.

Cleared it days ago. Hope I'm not too late. You can't scope out 100% but as for having a fair amount of confidence as for what is important, you can ask the candidates who gave about the questions (if you have any) or go through sample questions, as for me, they grilled me in nmap commands, SQL injection types, scenario based questions, how to evade jammer and scrambler attacks

How did you get the free voucher? I've also seen everyone recommend the CEH, so why do you not like it?
@nicoleenesse
@nicoleenesse 3 жыл бұрын
I went to WGU, which supplied a free voucher. A lot of other programs will also give you a free voucher. In the field it doesn't add much value, except to HR who thinks it sounds cool. The material is really outdated, the test is really expensive, and it isn't really respected once you get into the field. The OSCP is a way better choice if you are looking to go the pentester route.
@shaneboltz6534
@shaneboltz6534 2 жыл бұрын
@@nicoleenesse while I enjoy your content in regards to effective studying, I have to disagree with your dialogue dissuading people from taking this cert. I think it just adds to the frankly ignorant trend of people unjustly bashing ceh. As with all certs, it is updated on a regular basis to use more up-to-date information. Also, you had a free voucher for it, so why complain about the price? Most importantly, this is not a pentest cert, so to recommend someone take OSCP over this is misguided, since all those tools and concepts will likely be learned in this one, which is a beginner cert geared to demonstrate that you understand the concepts and lingo you would use later on in your security career. I will never not recommend Security + to anyone, but ceh has its place too. For someone starting out, it will get them past the hr firewall while also giving them a solid base of knowledge of concepts to build on later. If it helps get someone in the field, it does add value. And the people who don’t “respect” it are likely already successful and seasoned pentesters so, yeah, for them it wouldn’t make much sense. But then, this cert isn’t geared towards them, but beginners. Maybe give pros and cons of certs from now on, instead of condemning them for this reason and that.
