How to pay for gas in Canada

I was back in Toronto earlier this year and was driving my wife's car. I decided to show how to pump gas the Canadian way.
Unlike in Japan where you can use either cash, coins or credit card, you can only use a credit card at the pumps or you have to go into the main shop to pay for gas before you can use the pumps.

This is so interesting! I once worked at a gas station before when I was young and then when I learned how to pump gas I learned by following instructions and then I already know how to pump gas because I learned and when I pumped gas for my first time it was okay but kind of nervous so yeah but this is so interesting I love this.

Hi! I was surprised about this when I first arrived here. In the Philippines gas stations have attendants.

In Canada we used to as well but now it's very rare and 99% are self serve.

104.9, wow... back in the day. lol. The same purchase wud be double now near $60 cad. Checked yesterday it was 195.8. YIKES!!!

dollar amount you are selecting is UP To amount, right? So that you can fill your tank to full, not to set amount.

Yes, you're not required to spend the entire amount to fill up your tank. Hope this helps.

Our gas attendants are annoying. It is best to use a card and avoid them all together.

Suppose I pre-paid for $100 of gas but suddenly the fuel tank became full and it won't take anymore. The pump display is now stuck at $88. What do I do in that case??

You’d still have a credit of $12 of gas on your prepaid card.

@@chinesejohncena9137 I believe it is automatically calculated by the pump. Please double check this with the clerk.

@@yancyescobar9695 When you buy a prepaid gas card from Shopper's Drug mart it makes payment easier. You don't need to buy a prepaid card but I recommend it. The other option is to pay by credit card or cash.

Did you receive your receipt at the pump or you had to go inside the gas station and take it from the cashier?

Unlike in North America, you always get a receipt at the pump.

@@NobleCrow10 Sorry for the late reply! If you're paying with a credit card at a gas pump in Canada, you press a button to get one printed a the pump. You don't need to go inside the store.
