I'm humbly realizing that I am a crap surfer. My last 4 sessions I felt like a total kook, even worse than usual. You guys have given me some really great things to focus on. Thanks so much!

Another example of not putting enough pressure on the back foot. Ant, the reason you are falling on your last curving turn is because you are DIGGING the rail because you put too much weight on the front foot. You can go back to the skate ramp all you want, you will simply reinforce that mistake as it is hard to lean back in the ramp…. With a skateboard you definitely need to put your weight forward as it will help your turn. But in your surfing, you simply need to hold that turn a little longer with some weight on your back foot to prevent the rail from digging… once your turn is complete then you can put your weight forward to some speed. But if you do that too early, you will dig the rail and fall the way you did. Take your mid length and practice this technique as you have to have proper technique with longer boards. Then go back on your short board and you will rip as it will be easier. Good luck!

Awesome Ant. Roundhouse cutback is the best feeling in my opinion. Loving seeing your progress. Reckon I’m probably at a similar level, {even though I’ve been at it for 30 years) Watching your stuff is gonna help me so much in my progress. Can’t wait to be able to travel from Darwin to somewhere where there are waves to try some of this new stuff.

Thanks OMBE TEAM, this analysis of ANT is invaluable for intermediate surfers like myself aspiring to move outside their current long term techniques. Seeing the progress in ANT is both inspiring and testament to the OMBE approach. It would be great if you guys could continue to post analysis of your average surfer so that we can all learn and improve. Thanks again.

This channel is amazing! I wish i had acces to this kind of information 15 years ago. I can relate so much to Ant. I loved how genuinely stoked he got after pointed out that his turn was rad, probably replayed that clip 100x later that day hehe

Slow mo, pausing rewinds and painted arrow lines on vid play backs is the best way to throw a wet towel on your surfing...Fact is if you feel good on your waves and you come out smiling ,then it only matters if youre ganna have judges looking at at all of these things above ,,,Otherwise free surfers just have fun and work on the things that you feel are at odds in the moment...So much science and text book physics thrown in here .If no one is videoing then fun and feel only need to apply

Hi there I'm a real newbie to surfing so please bear with me. I thought the idea of surfing was to have a fab time.. and as you said the way you executed your cut backs made you feel fab. My worrying thing is if you are too critical about what you are doing will you loose the joy of the sport? Me.. I'm happy just to be standing on the board with my 5mm suit boots and gloves ( England 🇬🇧) Is cold. Love you teachings and vids thank you 😊 Michael Gibbs Leeds UK

It is normal dont worry, keep training ! In Indo, many young surfers haseling in peak, come in thought they rips, check photo at beach café and endly buy nome because it looks sucks even they had good impression during session. Most of time turns did not spray that much, or waves was way smaller they thought, or even not deep in tube ...

I absolutely don’t have the inner strength to watch myself surfing on video 😂
@Cuisinenomade1

I really appreciate advice but I also think it is very important to remember WHY we surf. Is it to feel good? Or to look good? Why should somebody besides myself judge what I do? If it felt good, what's the problem? I get all the "technicality" of sports but if i leave the judgment of what I do to others all the time, then I am not doing it to please MYSELF but others. And it is also dangerous to try and reproduce a "set image" of how it "should look" beyond how it felt and if i did the job. There are for example great tennis players with an unorthodox technique but it WORKS FOR THEM. And if i ask them to chage to fit MY WAY of doing it they would fail. How could anyone else tell ME what is best for ME? Shouldn't I be the sole judge of myself? Just a thought! Thanks for the videos! Also the line between help and not is very fine, having somebody always finding "errors" in MY doing creates dependency and I believe the goal of a coach is not to coach someone eternally but eventually leaving the student on their own in other words, creating an INDEPENDENT athlete and not a robot that follows instructions all the time.

Don't beat yourself up so much. The best surfer out is the one having the most fun... not the one who can turn the best... Enjoy the ride!

This guy on the right needs to shut up. So the homie can teach . Very annoying when he cuts him off , when he talks. I’m over it. Third time trying to watch these guys. But the guy guy on the left is a hood teacher 💯get rid of him he’s going to slow down , what your trying to achieve.
