how is emt school? i’m currently getting my certificates needed and hoping to start in three months so excited!

@@vilmamendoza9373 it’s really hard if you don’t have some sort of knowledge about medicine, I currently knew very few things about medicine but not to that extent. The class itself is really pushy to see if you break a sweat. Lots of studying your gonna need I usually spend about 3-4 hours of studying on one chapter. Also medical equipment gets very expensive in the long run. On top of that just to let you know that all instructors have a good amount of years under their belt and also some/most students like 1/3 of the class is already on a volunteer service. But if you are going into the class cold Turkey make sure you have someone or a buddy that can help you study. The class is half books and half hands on. The class in itself if it’s something you are interested in your going to have a great time, but if it’s something you want to do on the side I wouldn’t recommend it. If you are looking to become a cop or firefighter take an emt class, even though you took the test for either one they are not going to hire you because you didn’t have an first responder experience also boosts up your chances of getting in, makes you look interesting to them. If your just a basic civilian who wants to be a firefighter or law enforcement but didn’t go to emt school the chances of you getting in it’s very very very slim.

@@timzstr not really, reason is because you are disturbing the cardiac rhythm as you stop CPR so basic chest compression is just fine, that’s why I’m not taught it in my EMT course, also that’s why em we have a BVM (big valve mask) every 30 compressions we give 2 breaths ever 5 seconds and allow the chest to rise it give way more oxygen than mouth to mouth. As the 2 breaths every 5 seconds is done we continue another 30 and 2 breaths again, 30:2 take a first aid course and ask an EMT about it, I didn’t need to cause I knew that mouth to mouth was kinda pointless. That’s why I said that if you are a basic first aid supplier then just chest compressions works fine, and wait for the rescuers to arrive we’ll provide that patient with higher quality CPR, also if the patient has a pulse but not breathing don’t do chest compressions roll them over on their left side in the recovery position this will allow blood go to the heart. If the patient is not breathing and doesn’t have a pulse the patient is dead, we start CPR to hopefully bring the patient back to life with that 5-10% chance

What the hell, they didn't teach you how to give compressions to children vs. babies vs. adults?? If anyone, it's EMTs who are supposed to know that. (Wouldn't hurt for most people to know)

Yep. Technically you're not supposed to breathe co2 but it is possible, just not long term. Still important to breathe in air

I'm a pharmacist and yes what we give them is CO2 and it serves to stimulate the lung to expel it out and fill itself again with oxygen

When I was kid. I use to breathe into a balloon, to stay under water. I did not realize we should not do that.

Air you breathe in normally is 21% O2, and when you exhale it still has 17% O2 - in essence you are not using up all the O2 in your breath. The mix of stimulating the lungs, oxygenation, and compressions helps in this situation.
