Good call. I loved using just two primes when I used to shoot weddings. My faves were the 35 1.4 the 85 1.2 and the 200 f2 the latter awesome for candid distance subject isolation. I also used to carry the 14 mm 2.8 as well.

I have moved to mostly a 35mm - 85mm combo and still take 50mm 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8. The 70-200 2.8 can really crush a distracting background and pull in distant objects if needed. Great video, little over the top with the hipster theme.

Such great stuff, and you are a great teacher! I rarely shoot any events/weddings, but the very few I have done, I feel like I’ve always just grabbed a 70-200 to feel safe, but I love how you utilize all primes. I am going to try that next time!

I'm getting back into photography after 25 years. Video is like learning a new whole language. At weddings, we did everything with 24-50mm lens & I had zoom too that I didn't use too much. I don't remember the length. Carried 2 cameras with me, always had an old one in a car. I had it so why not? Excellent video. I use to develop my own film too.

Starting to do some paid shoots and the 35 + 85 combo works like a charm. Great focal lengths to shoot. I do have to invest in a second camera body, not only as a backup but also for an increase of flexibility. Swapping lenses can be a drag and you may miss a moment or two.

Thanks for sharing your process. I prefer a zoom primarily the 70-200 since what venues I've shot are smaller and don't allow for a lot of movement. It also allows me to minimize lens changes. I also don't have the budget for that many L primes. Love the look that you produce.

You MUST be my dad, because you knew EXACTLY what's going on in my life, and I had no idea! I've booked my first wedding for later this year, and was contemplating going with two DSLRs and only primes. I wasn't sure if that was a great idea or, if it was, how best to make it work. This was exactly what I needed. I feel a lot more confident with my plan, kinda impressed with my own ingenuity, and more prepared on how to make it work beautifully. Thank you pops!! (*disclaimer, you look at least a decade younger than me, so getting to call anyone else 'dad' is a salve to my sensitive ego :D)

Been using a pair of bodies with different prime lenses just about forever. However, I like the Optech Dual Harness because of the extra security of the two points of attachment for each camera. I have recently switched to Sony APSC Mirrorless cameras with 35mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.8 lenses...

Yeah, a secondary/backup camera is almost a must/important for pro works, especially shooting with primes only. I wasn't even a pro, but when I started out four decades ago to cover events, I used three cameras (Nikon F2A, FE2 & Hasselblad 500 C/M). Back in the dark age of digital, I had Nikon D3, D300 & Canon 5D Mk II with two sets (Canon & Nikon) lens trinity. In addition to backup to backup as best practice, it is much easier to switch focal length (and/or ASA/ISO with film) with multiple cameras.

Thanks for this. That shoulder back doesn't need a shoulder strap... the harness has clips which can hold the bag against your lower back, where you can reach into it behind you to grab things more quickly.... as long as you know where each thing is in the bag by feel, which you can develop a skill for

I really appreciate this. I use two bodies as well but I really want to invest in a wider prime as I only have two lenses right now; 28-75 tamron and an 85mm 1.8.. looking at getting a 35mm and 55mm 1.8 soon. I just love the vibe you get from walking back and forth looking for that dreamy shot with my 85.. i rather zoom with my feet.. i feel accomplished after getting that shot lol.
