I've tried Aikido, Karate, Tae Kwon Do and a few others and I've never felt as confident in what was being taught to me than the current Arnis class I'm currently in. Taken me over 30 years to find a school that I feel I'm benefiting from. Completely agree with you.

Pretty much everything you said was on point, especially 1:01. It is absolutely more important to find a good teacher and a good school than it is to simply sign up for the ideal martial art, or what you believe is the ideal martial art. It's like sports; I could be playing the "best sport" in the world, but if I have a bad coach then it doesn't matter, I'll still suck.

Excellent points. Some schools I checked out had terrible teachers and you could see it in how the students performed classes. Some too aggressive, some too much horseplay. By checking them out, I always got great teachers in karate, boxing and bjj. Never hurts to check out beforehand.

10 minutes of experience equal 4 hrs of studying and researching. This is so close to truth. I have also decided to experiment with martial arts school. I have some fixed of what I want but experiencing it first will provide me with more vital feedback. Thanks for this video, very good.

I’ve been humbly practicing martial arts for over 20 years I’m proud to say ( still getting my ass kicked all the time😂) but anyways thought I’d offer some advice when looking for a perspective place to train number 1. Price the most expensive place in town is not always the best a lot of places charge for uniforms grades etc beware of the instructor in it for the money and not the quality. 2. Distance never go somewhere to far to your house remember your gonna be training probably 2-3 times a week you don’t wanna have a long drive after work in traffic to your martial arts class for me personally I stay within 30 minutes max from my house for martial arts schools 3. The last but most important I would say is choose a place that’s fun and a instructor you like don’t worry so much about the style what’s most important is that you actually want to attend class and have fun with what your learning after all your spending your hard earned money 🤙

+Self Defense Tutorials I went to Shaolin classes when I was around 9 years old and all they did each lesson was practise Shaolin kicks over and over along with a pattern, which was learned so you could get your next grade, there was no excercising apart from some light warm ups at the start of each class, surely this wasn`t an adequate martial arts class.

There's a lot of crappy schools out there and it's costing a lot of dough in the long direction so let's first figure out how to find a good karate school

Well like Bruce Lee said when you asked him what style are you and Bruce Lee says I am no style is just the way you hit the ball it's a personal thing but it is not the meat and potatoes that actually hits the ball it is just your personal way just like your personality two hit the ball the way you desire your style which means absolutely nothing when it comes to teaching somebody else how to hit a ball in the first place style is not the essence of any art

Stephan, quick question: What is your take on Modern Judo as a legitimate system of self-defense? Can a practitioner of judo hold his own today in the streets in this day-and-age of Jiu Jitsu fighters? What's your take?

he im not stephan but ill give you my 2 cents, firstly you dont want to train for the streets most good fighters fight in clubs, gyms and cages or at least underground organisations, a person who is gonna fight you on the street is either drunk, mentally unstable on drugs or all of the above, if you are being started on by someone whos not on of thoes 3 things he is probably assulting/mugging you, in which case he has an advantage over you, a weapon, friends, is significantly larger ect.. the point is train for the cage not the streets secondly, I did judo for quit a while and now i train mma and bjj, judo is super super effective if your stronger than opponent, if your not you will be able to use it but it wont finish many fights for you, but the takedowns and good top control is very usful. in mma you basically use 3 submisions, rear naked, triangle, armbar and so judo has them covered, top control is important in mma and judo so thats good. alot of BJJ schools dont train with the same intensity as judo so you might find you have superior pins, posturing and sweeps that can negate alot of bjj. but you will get caught all the time before you even know what happend by good bjj guys, they sneeky. and i wouldnt feel confident in fight without half decent striking. that being said a big ippon on the street will F*** sombody up, most people in a streetfight would be clothed making judo throws much easier, so i think judo is definitely nothing to be snickered at, but judo alone wont get you far in a sanctioned fight.

Quick google search says that people used look up phone numbers.... PSYCH!!! But seriously though you really dated yourself with that one. Great video.

Back in the 1980's everyone's phone numbers used to be listed in these huge books called phone books. In addition to the normal phone book (which just had everyone listed in alphabetical order) you get this second part of a phone book, called "The Yellow Pages" which differed from the regular phone book in that it was more in an advertisement form. I guess most people these days are not old enough to remember them.
