Lizzie, thank you for demonstrating how to pinch Cosmos plants. I understand the purpose of pinching in that it encourages the plant to sprout branches therefore doubling the number of flowers the plant can produce. I have a suggestion which I hope you won't mind. Looking at the second plant you were showing which already had several branches, if you snipped it carefully you could pot up the top so giving you an extra plant, thus multiplying the number of plants as well. Thanks.

Very interesting I always thought you had to pinch out the very top tips of the plants hence them never becoming bushy but top heavy instead, many thanks for the demonstration 🌸

I am planting some cosmos flowers in my garden so that they will bloom in the time of our Lunar New Year, and this is really helpful, since the last time I grow them they didn't seem to produce much flowers despite grow so tall. Thank you.

So this is my first time I'm trying to have potted plants because I don't have a yard so I put a bunch of seeds in one pot and now they're growing they are laggy I know that has to do with sun I have a grow light on them my question is now do I start putting them in single pots? They are like 4,5 inches tall. Where can I leave them all together in one pot and they will grow full plants? Please help thank you

Hello Lizzy. Let me see if I have this pinching cosmos thing correct, as I am new to it. If you dont pinch, those "branches" will not grow and produce flowers and only one flower will bloom at the very top in a straight stalk? How many flower will "branch" if you pinch them and I think you all say pinch and not cut; because you feel bad about it lol? Thank you for some more details to my questions and you have a very nice looking yard. Are you in England, I ask because it seems like and American type yard and fence, but I have only seen some styles of English houses, cottages and yards over the years. Most always have small brick "fences" or walls and seems old style more often then not with houses and yards. Thanks and Appreciation, Chris

Hello, by pinching the top flower you then create tow side shoot so will get two flowers instead of one. Hope this helps.

@@therosepressgarden Hello and thank you. I cut 2-3 like you and others did and I didnt like the way it made a big "U" shape to it; as they arent coming up like the all the others I left alone. Most are coming up like little trees with strong stalks and 2-3 flowers blooming on top of each one. A few others are smaller and may only produce one flower or maybe they will grow thick and strong like the rest. The ones I cut seem to be lacking growth as of now and will have to wait to see what they do. I did the same to a few of my Zinnia so I could root and replant them and it worked. Most of my Zinnia are looking like single thin plants right now and some are flowering already with one large flower that last a long time. Yet I have 2-3 of them that are way bigger, thicker and formed 4-5 slanted "branches" that are also flowering on one plant. Not sure what the norm is on them, as I read and looked at pics that they grow one single stalk and flower. So, I am glad I have a few that that are big and producing several flowers on one plant. This is all new to me and its going great and to see the size and the beauty of the Zinnia and Cosmos is awesome with all the smaller colorful flowers, veggies, herbs and melons I have going too. My Cosmos only last for a few days, where the Zinnia goes for up to two weeks looking good. Is that the norm for those two? Thank you for any answers. Love from America, Chris
