If you live in a zone where you can leave them in the ground, during the winter (mulched) they will naturally bush up the following year

It’s not the leaving them in the garden that causes them to “bush out” it’s the animals like slugs, rabbits, deer etc eating the shoots 😁

Do you ever use the pinching motion in the lecture hall to get the especially rowdy ones to settle down? (Kids in the Hall, maybe b4 yr time)

I tend to do it a few times in early season whenever there’s a longer stem

It’s not too much about height but more that there’s a couple of sets of string true leaves

How do you get Dahlia's with long stems. mine always seem quite short

I don’t grow long stem types because I don’t do cut flowers But you can choose particular types that grow in a more single stem variety and not pinch them out. You do however pinch out side shoots to continue its growth of a single stem and flower. If you search for folk who grow cut flower gardens you’ll get lots of tips
