I must be a pretty decent teacher then. Maybe I should make a video. I taught my 7 year old daughter and my wife that has very little experience using bait caster how to pitch and flip in 5 minutes. My little girl picked it up quicker then the wife did!!!! Taught both of them how to cast bait caster too. Over hand, sidearm roll cast, and just sidearm cast. I smoke cigarettes, but not in house. I keep a rod with a jig, on deck where I smoke at year round. When I go smoke, I practice my pitching and flipping. I got a coffee cup I move around to different distances and in tricky places and practice practice practice!!!!

IMO, it's a good idea to practice pitching with both hands. Sometimes you might not want to switch hands after the pitch. Example: Using Johnny's right hand reel setup in the video. Pitch with your left hand, and you're already set up to reel without switching hands.

I only use a reel with a flipping switch. There's simply no better way to guarantee a hook up if the Bass inhales your bait as soon as it hits the water. Just my opinion as each of us have our respected preferences.

One thing that I have done that helped me tremendously pitching and even flipping was putting the rod in my left hand verses my right. This keeps me from switching hands and has helped me catch more fish doing so.

You have a great future ahead of you young man. Your tutorials are great, your articulate and are showing us things that will help us catch fish and your not trying to sell me anything or pushing any one product. Your tips about turning your hips, raising your upper arm to shoulder height, rod tip down and spacing from reel to lure are great. These are all things the big name guys are probably doing subconsciously but don't tell us where you break it down into simple fine points that are easy to understand. Great video

I tried this and raising the elbow and the shoulder joint will be majorly fatigued after 7-8 hours of fishing. I was taught keep elbows to side and use the wrist and pitch motion same time to get bait out. Only issue is, it takes a huge amount of practice to master, but your arms will thank you. Everything else, I do the same techniques... Once that bait hits the water you have to keep in contact with that line, because as soon as bass it's your rod tip will be about 9 oclock position allowing you to really set the hook. If your rod tip is too high when the bait hits the water, the bass will hit fast not allowing you to set the hook properly.

I'm watching the first minute of the video and realize you should be using a left-sided reel because you're right-handed, it feels stupid in the beginning until you actually get used to it and it becomes natural, it would absolutely eliminate that extra step of handing over the rod from one hand to the other.

I think I'm going to try practice with something with weight. I am a saltwater guy this fresh yesterday was my first bass trout fishing and it was like 3 to 4 lbs. Went back today with my bass gear throwing a Senko action was nonstop landed 3 lost many others. Keep it up with these teaching videos.

Good tutorial , I found I was able to pitch pretty good first try after watching . I found it easier with an 8 foot rod than its twin 7foot version . I had to go to a heavier lure on the 7 to make things easier . I also found more "body input " was required for the 7 . Both rods cheap - really cheap - Ali express . Reels were budget Abu's - so I would guess higher spec gear - especially reel - would make it easier . The American practice of changing hands after casting , would lose you lots of fish here in France , Pike (muskie) will hit a lure within a split second or so of it touching down . We also net our fish to land them and are not scared to to touch the fish as most American anglers seem to be , the thumb in the mouth hold is creeping in over here .

Great instruction. I’ve been learning to pitch for about a year now. This will definitely help me refine my technique. I’ve heard that switching the rod into the other hand at the end of the cast is not ideal. Especially when a fish hits as soon as the bait hits water. I’m right handed but like to reel a bait caster with my right hand. I was able to train myself to pitch left handed with only a couple weeks practice, so I don’t have to switch hands. The other option would have been to get a left handed reel, but I bought a nice right handed Revo SX for fishing heavy cover before taking an interest in pitching. So didn’t want to buy another reel for this specific technique.

Hello from Australia bro this one of the best how to videos yet! Thank you Murray cod are so a like to bass it's not funny. Cod are pretty much the main fish I do fish for!! They fresh water fish native to Australia. I do a lot of golden perch as well they are like cod they will eat jigs Texas rigs and that sort of stuff as well. and I fish for trout a lot to! And just perch witch you guys call golden perch but here we call red fin! Just by using bass rigs I have caught more cod in 1 year the I have 3 years! By using bass rigs Australia is so old fashion when it comes hard body baits and there's only sort of 3 main ways to catch them. So one day I thought out side of the box! And I'm so glad I did I have gone to catching 1 or 2 cod now I'm catching 3 to 6 when I go cod fishing. Don't get me wrong if they not biting like any other fish you can have bad days out! But just using Texas rigs and jigs and couple of other rigs it's help me catch more by 100%! But flipping for cod with jigs and T-rigs is a bit harder if you put the lure in a cod face his going hit it like a car hitting do 55 but flipping is way harder then using just the normal ways! Thank you for this video FTM I did not think about the when I'm flipping about the splash this video might be the key I was missing so thank you and stay safe buddy.
