thank you for explaining everything but i didn't hear you clearly when you were talking about copyright . our music should be already protected by copyright when we are reaching to music supervisors ?

Hi Giles, First off what a very informative video. I did all the wrong things when I emailed you before watching this video lol. I sent out an email and didn't mention how our music would fit so well with your next JDSport or Asics or even adidas spots. So, how does one not get looked upon as wasting a music supervisors time when one has jumped the gun and sent out emails before heading your advise?

Hi, great video. I've written 1000s of songs and recorded hundreds. But I don't want to waste publishers time by sending music that isn't good enough, or give a bad first impression. Of course, I love my music, but I'm biased. What would you recommend I do to find out if my music/production/mixing is up to scratch?

Hi Kevin, good question! Regarding mixing/production I would say to firstly trust your ears and reference your music against your favourite music, study your favourite music, look at the EQ levels, stereo panning etc, how does it compare? If your songs are going to be released on vinyl for radio/streaming play etc, then it may be a good idea to have a chat with an experienced mastering engineer who will tell you where you can improve, if you need to. Regarding music, I'm sure you must be able to put together 10 of your favourite tracks, and then ask other music makers (people you look up to and not friends) for feedback and see which ones they like and what advice they can offer. Remember if you ask people for help 9 times out of 10 they will help and if you're smart and ask someone who's already done the thing you're asking advice about, you'll get good advice. You're right it's best to send 3 great tracks rather than 1000's of tracks. Hope this help and good luck!

If I include a download link and a streaming link, is it an issue if the streaming track displays the amount of streams it has had; will they take issue with a track that other people have already heard; do they want it to be exclusive to them; must I create a private streaming link especially for that and would that also be the best way to monitor who actually listens? Sorry for the long question, bit it's something that confuses me

@@KevSmith1983 I would recommend using disco.ac/ you can stream, download, add metadata and artwork. But youtube link would be fine :)

Hi Giles, great video! Do you advise using the word "one-stop" in the email? You mention on your website that you need to own 100% of the copyright. Can I ask what you recommend for songs which are co-written but each party agrees that the other can represent the song as one-stop? Thanks!

Thank you Max and yes as long as you have an agreement in place between the both of you then that's fine! If you mention that is available Mentioning that music is available one-stop will just make things easier for the client and means you can license quickly and easily for them! Good luck!

On what constitutes a bad eMail, you say "do not make references on my music sound like..." Literary many music supervisors say "yes do that". Bad Grama or spelling??? I have received eMails from people with Ph.D. With Grama errors. Grama errors say nothing about the person. If a music supervisor rejects a person for that, they have forgotten about Albert Einstein, the most influential physicist of the 20th century, who was dyslexic. include on your list Leonardo da Vinci, Saint Teresa, Napoleon, Winston Churchill, Carl Jung, and Thomas Edison. If that doesn't show you how wrong you are on the expectations of grama, you have not learned from history.
