Adam, I was dying day by day while the convoy was happening. My bike has been being rebuilt and down. I prayed and prayed that I could meet up with you on the road and ride at least a few days with you all. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. Please know that you are an absolute hero for me, and my fellow veterans. I served during the Vietnam era, and can remember vividly the disrespect that was shown then towards veterans. To see the change in how we as a nation treat our service men and women. It allows me to understand that we are moving toward a better nation. People like you are responsible for this change. It was an awesome Road trip! Ive ridden for over 20 years but never have i done a solo long distance ride in my life! Meeting you all in Green River Wyoming, from Artesia NM was my 1st longest solo ride right at 900 miles! Then after coming back home for a few weeks and then heading back out to meet you in Sioux Falls SD, 1,040 miles! and then the biggest one was after we were done in Milwaukee, the ride home was my longest solo ride almost 1,400 miles!!! I had just purchased my NEW Indian Pursuit with 1 mile on it, and now the odometer sits at 8500 miles 6 months later with over 6500 miles from Convoy riding!! I never in my dreams did I think I would have such epic rides this year, and to think in March I got news that I Partially detached my rotator cuff but I knew I wanted to ride with the convoy in Texas and New Mexico, so I stayed STUBBORN and pushed back my surgery, and kept pushing back but stayed Stubborn through some pain! (looking at surgery in October now! oops!) The Convoy riding was and is one for the books! New Friends New Family! Thanks again ADAM!!

One Tip someone gave me for bike trip from Boston To Atlanta, was “Set a 2hr timer for stops” so every 2 hrs you stop no matter what or where you are. This was great to limit fatigue and soreness and also was a great way to ensure that your always topped off with fuel for your bike and yourself, trust me you’ll enjoy your trip a lot more!!! And p.s Eat Light! 💩

Excellent video, as usual. To confirm the biker community is as good as it gets, I joined "The Convoy" in Mason City, IA and rode with y'all to the museum. The next day on my way back to Texas, my fuel pump went out on my '08 classic just east of Marshalltown, IA. Long story short, a native Iowan stopped, helped me troubleshoot the problem, offered to pick up the part I needed from the Harley shop in Ames, IA, and help change it out. He was already about 20 miles off course when he found me on the side of the road and put in another 90 to get the job done. I was blessed to be treated like a brother by this man, thanks Dion!

Bro, I had to watch this a few times; so resourceful… an other set of eyes helping me reflect on all my road trips. As much fun as I have had, the incredible sights to see, stop and take pictures, fun places to eat along the way and ride thru, one thing I did think of on my last trip leading a few buddies out for 5 days who’d never taken a trip on a bike before, and you reminded me, is we’ve always packed up each morning and traveled to the next destination, until we finish back home. I need to consider riding to establish a base-camp somewhere to stay 3-5 days, whether camping, or staying in cabins, or hotels, enjoy that area, take shorter day rides out of there, try different restaurants, and relax more, maybe take a “zero-day” and not ride anywhere, just hang out. Like we do at Sturgis.

If you're on a Harley Touring bike, buy a spare jiffy stand spring. Then...watch a tutorial on changing it WITHOUT using vice grips or pennies.. All you need is an adjustable wrench (or a 1/2 in wrench) loosen the retaining bolt on the top of the jiffy stand, lift up the locking block, and rotate the jiffy stand forward toward the front of the bike. Spring slacks, remove old, replace with new, and reverse the process!😊

Thank You Mr. Sandoval, We share a very common thread of doing the trip as a poor man Adam. A military surplus store can be your "Go To" for gear inexpensive. A poncho serves as your home tied to your steed, a roof when doing roadside repairs and your rain gear for hikes. Learn to cook! Not from Gordon Ramsey or the Muppet's Swedish Chef but learn quick meal cooking and slow cook dinners. Take time to learn your bike mechanically, roadside repairs will kill your budget if you rely on shops. For Adams trip new shoes were a concern with the distance and road conditions as well as oil/ fluid changes at proper intervals. I spend a lot of time on back roads and dirt roads so air filters and oil change distances are shorter! As much as I stay away from the Hundred Dollar store TIRES marketed for HD have thicker side walls for that extra payload! My Ladies inexperienced son just bought a used bike and has a laundry list of parts to change and too much time on my bench for after market parts changes and tuning. Get a bike for the long run not a fast race, stock is probably fine unless of large payload and hilly terrain. How much back country skill do you actually have? Practice camping! Don't be afraid or humiliated to experiment and practice with each piece of gear and a few short trips before the Journey. HOBO can cooking of eggs with sandwich cut meats is a great way to start a day with minimal cooking, cleanup or prep. A Jetboil stove for hot cocoa or coffee can be the savior on a rainy night after a long day, those warm fluids going in you will change your mindset. Plan for days of rest, not a day at a rally or event an actual day to rebuild that human Spirit. For me that's a shell, Sage and some Cedar for smudging to cleanse and acknowledge Wakan Tonka and the Grandfathers. An unlimited budget is easy to plan with. But as a carpenter and general handi man I find work along the way to cover repairs, "Money Up" or rebuild my nest egg. I made my own tent with a rain fly to work under or relax in, those expensive tents with garages never left me room to actually work or relax so that's a consideration. With that tent I made poles of short lengths to combine for use and they can be substituted with branches or securing to trees or terrain. As a disabled US Army combat Veteran national and state park access is reduced or free so check into your benefits but donate what you can at places like Crazy Horse. Do you have to have all the "top of the line" gear or can you make do with farm and ranch supply or Military Surplus gear? My time in the Army had me from the deserts to Alaskan tundra and rain forests with virtually the same gear, so consider gortex and polypro. Check your ego at the door! As much as we all see "tough" bikers portrayed on TV and movies, that attitude will not get you welcomed very often. This is an eye opening great adventure, go into it openminded. Go at each day to learn and grow. If every where you go you've got to be the main event it'll grow old very fast so go to learn. Making daily checks of gear and equipment have to be a habit, getting caught in a snow or rainstorm without layers or dry clothes for afterwards can seriously effect you mentally. Planning ahead for a good sized town to do your maintenance can be all the difference in expenses and availability of products. Small towns don't often stock large diverse products! Remain flexible! National landmarks or events on weekends are packed so plan to enjoy Tuesday through Thursday. PUTTING DOWN THE MILES? This isn't a Hoka Hey or Iron Butt so plan short runs between activities to truly enjoy. But, by all means enjoy that long day drone of the engine beneath you on long stretches that invigorate your soul! Ask questions without arrogance and just enjoy this great land and some of it people and cultures. After my youngest left the house I took off for a year on the road. A year and a half later I pulled back onto the ranch, put Ol Blue up on the bench, layed out all my camping gear to clean and dry, dreamed that night in my own bed about the next trip. When I woke up the next morning I found Ol' Blue's rear tire let out all the air as if she was telling me she needed a few days off and a lot of TLC. Road grime accumulated all over the engine I found as I pulled her apart for a rebuild of the heads, my brakes had stuck and only one pad was being worn on the front. My triple tree needed bearings repacked with grease and the frame had a crack in the left down tube I welded that day with the wheels off. Pulling my seat I found the springs had collapsed and needed to be replaced as well as my rear shocks. All day I was left with the memories as I found things needing attention on the old girl. Fork seals reminded me of rough roads in Vermont and Wyoming. Lights needed new bulbs that hadn't gotten changed during the trip and some wiring needed better flex tubing to protect them. Lots of silly items made for an expensive drive to town but the adventure of the open roads of America were ahead of me so I better be prepared for the flip of the coin at the next intersection. That to me is truly how to do a trip, layout a few options, flip a coin and obey Nature's calling. Thank You so much to all the Convoy riders, Adam and Mrs. Sandoval and all the dealerships that showed up different from the new darley havidson corporate message. I ride old Harleys, older Indians and a couple Goldwings but any bike that gets you into the wind will do. Thank a Veteran every chance you can, that's the Freedom they've provided you so be grateful! Great video. So much truth! Retirement and motorcycles are like peanut butter and jelly. My tips are to enjoy the journey and not just the destination. Avoid freeways when possible and enjoy the back roads. Don't plan too many miles in 1 day, it will diminish the enjoyment. If you are planning on staying in motels don't wait too late to get a room or you won't find one. Best to call ahead around noon to make your reservations once you figure out where that day's ride will end.

Downunder we do an annual tour of Tasmania.....12 bikes, Harley’s, Trumpy, Royal Enfield, MV Augusta, Ducati, Honda.....about 3000kms over 7 days. We all get away from day to day life and spend some quality time....I read a quote which sums up the motorcycling experience: “You never see a motorcycle out front of a psychiatrists office”. 👍 🇦🇺

Great ride, Adam! Awesome result in the fundraiser! Congratulations! I’m a “out of the box stock” kind of guy. That way the Harley stores can look after me. Our last long one was across Canada in 2019. Put on over 15,000 miles. (24000 kms). Dropped into Maine and New Hampshire and returned through Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and hwy 2 across the top states. We were gone 3 months. Started with new tires and fresh oil and changed oil when required. Bike was 4 years old then so needed a battery about 1/2 way. That was the only “major”. This year destination is “Old Faithful” in Wyoming in late August. Approximately 2500 miles. New “Anniversary” bike for the trip. Should be GOOD! Thanks again!! Ride On!

Adam, it was great meeting you at stop 108 and one thing I noticed is that the red color of your bike really stood out among the others in terms of visibility, even from a distance I could see you had that bike tricked out. As for me personally for long tripping I would concentrate on the best suspension I could get because of my bad back. And also a airbag jacket with the tether line is a must for me because of my spinal injury. I could never survive a impact to my back with my condition, so the new Airbag jackets and vests are a must. At my age, it’s all about comfort and safety! In my younger days I slept on the concrete next to my motorcycle with just my leather jacket under my head at rest stops. Today, it’s Hotels with a hot shower and a comfortable bed or nothing! Lol. But I still can crank out the miles. I have to wonder what YOUR next road bike will be and how it’s set up according to your vast riding knowledge and experience.

Wool socks! Keeps your feet dry and cool believe it or not. Wicking underwear aka no cotton. For long days I’ll also put on an air hawk seat cushion. This helps with airflow and also I blow it up extra in the rain to keep me from sitting in a puddle.

I prefer camping. Whether it be a state park, KOA, private campground or boon docking. The problem with camping (except the boon docking) is that most campgrounds close up at 5ish and I still want to ride till 8ish or so. I know you can make reservations, but I don't like to do that. I may find a small side trip to take or break down. Sometimes I roll in and ask if they have a spot or sometimes I call when I am an hour or two away. Either way camping is my choice (weather permitting). I just got back from a 6550 mile trip/13 days. One night I stayed in a relatives house and the last two nights I stayed in motels because it was late and no campgrounds were around. So I camped for 10 days and loved it.

I bought the damn bike and I have no regrets. 🤘🏻

I can't agree more with this video. As a truck driver I've been everywhere but had seen nothing. So 5 years ago, I've started taking the time 1 or 2 weeks and going on my bike 2000 to 4000 mile ride . Don't just buy the damn bike, buy the damn bike and go ride the damn bike, it's awesome. Whether it's the Carolinas or it's the rockies. I have done both from Wisconsin, and the trips have been epic.

Adam Adam we all love you and for what you do for the vets but one thing bothers me is that you say ( thanks for my freedom) your freedom has never been under threat America has never been attacked . So keep doing what you do and we all love your vlogs.

When I ride I always have great footwear. To make a long story short when I went to iraq I had bought a $300 dollar the best combat I could find well the army gave me a dessert boot to ware so the boots I bought were useless. when I got home after a few years those boot I bought were packed away. I bought a bike and was looking for a great boot then I remember the $300 boots unpacked them they were still new. The boots are 100% waterproof, thick leather & are summer/winter boots. End of story. Having the right gear to me is very important no matter where you go.

I've been on many cross country trips and couldn't agree more with you advice in this video. I also ride with Klim rain gear and I feel it's very good. My bibs are actually light wait snow mobile bibs that are water proof and slightly insulated. I wear one pair of Harley boots that are waterproof. They work very good but also use the Harley boot covers if it's really going to rain hard for hours but most rainy days I can go without them. I loved meeting you on the convoy when you came Monty's in West Bridgewater and noticed Kathy planting a quick kiss in the beginning of this video. The best thing about epic trips is making memories. The memories you create are the best.

One day I'll come visit you at the campground, I'm just waiting on my friend that is a Marine veteran. But I'm starting to think he's never gonna be able to get a bike again, with kids, bills and all.. I've met quite a few KZfaqrs and rode with some, even gone to concerts with one. I came to Ukes to see you brother and what you're doing. You signed my "Great American Convoy" shirt and got some pics of you with me. I will frame that one signed shirt. I also went to your website and bought 2 more LG shirts (which are very thin material), and bought your Stubborn American hat which is too tall for my head! Lol. All is good because I cherish everything I got and will wear them with pride. I hope your shirts will be alittle thicker in the future. Love ya man. See you at Kriver one of these days. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on what you have learned on your road trips. We did purchase Klock Werks for our bikes and they are awesome. The next purchase we're discussing is the Cardo communications for our helmets. We're doing some back and forth to see if it will work on our Indian helmets or our half helmets. Once again, thank you so much for sharing what you've learned so we can plan accordingly even if it's a day trip.

I ride a sporty, so I have to plan my trips at 100 miles at a time. Lol. Just finished my third road trip at the beginning of the month. One week road trip to ride the Tail of the Dragon. I was not too far over the budget I have made, but that was because of unplanned purchases, being a tourist. XD

No need to over plan. Don't pigeon hole yourself into a crazy schedule. If you forget something, you will pass a Walmart somewhere

Adam, can't wait to come down and see you again at KRiver. The one thing I make sure I have and working well is a good Radar App on my phone. I use MyRadar, and make sure I have the Wind Overlay on. Great info as always Adam, ive done a few what i would call medium length rides but this yr im going solo to Sturgis for the fist time, excited and a little nervous at the same time, but i do take solstice in what you said about the community as a whole. As far as the couch.. you couldnt be any closer to the truth, i have a friend of mine who retired 2 yrs ago, sits on the couch and has gained a shit load of weight. I bust his balls about it but once i heard you say on the convoy about the couch ive ramped it 10 fold, he cant come with me to Sturgis but im not gonna stop till he rides the DAMM MOTORCYCLE!. I had brought this up maybe a year or two ago, fitness. Stretching, pushups, pullups or just anything goes along way. Preserving the body so the stops are enjoyed not uncomfortable and stiff. Possibly attached to an app? Second, I am surprised you don't have a supplement brand for the lifestyle. Energy packets, instant coffee packets, meal replacement shakes and or snacks. Quite often the road doesn't offer the best health option.

Nice job Adam, heading out for 20 days with 6 guys that I have ridden with for 20 years, and someday I am gunna make it to the kriver ,cause even all of us being close to 60 we still love camping

Big take away for me being on the convoy for a large part it, was how easy it is to over pack. If your staying in hotels night after night with laundry facilities. 3 days worth of clothes is enough,

I’ve traveled a lot in my many years of riding. This epic adventure was the top ride for me. And Adam you covered it all very well in this video. The best part of traveling is the people you’re riding with. Have had not so fun rides dealing with the wrong riders. Adam attracted the best of the best! I met hundreds of f***+^g awesome riders. Awesome video, another item i like to make sure I have is a tire repair kit. On long trips I have found myself literally in the middle of God's country and no cell service. Slime makes a small tire repair kit that even comes with CO2 cartridges that's perfect for a motorcycle. It's enough to get you to a place for proper repairs. Safe riding all

It’s not a sign 🪧! I readied my bike for the road, packed my two Cero 3D 70gal. dry bags. Walked out to the garage and found SilverBAK fell off my wheel chock onto Killmonger wheels up! After an hour of trying to lift SilverBAK while holding Killmonger Rosy, my wife came out to hold Silverback from the lean so I could squeeze Killmonger free (all her idea). It worked! Next day I started the bike up, but SilverBAK would not go into 1st. I called Chris at Blockhead, who did my Stage II on Killmonger, but they were on their way to Milwaukee. I calmed myself down and went back to my Navy troubleshooting training. Found that my grip shade was bent into the leaver gap. Bent the shade back to free the space. It’s not a sign 🪧! Got on the road for my first road trip. My lithium battery died in Georgia got a battery from Walmart, It’s not a sign 🪧! Picked up a nail in Tennessee got a new Commander III. It’s not a sign 🪧! Got rescued by Shantell Williams’ husband Cob. It’s not a sign 🪧! Went to sleep in Vincennes, ended up being the namesake of the Guide Missile Aegis Cruiser I was stationed on in Japan, USS Vincennes (CG-49). Totally rad, but… Not a sign 🪧! Roadtrip tip: don’t ride a Harley older than 10 years,cause “some” Harley dealers don’t want to touch them..there’s a huge misconception of that whole dealer network means you get repairs…so buy a harley lol…and also true if your a Canadian travelling into the states…when your broke down the harley dealerships I called didn’t care….and told me to look elsewhere “true story”and this is super important… do not ride a VROD..Harley techs (can you call them that?) are scared of those motorcycles…. So moral of the story get a Honda…..

I am so happy to have 2 wheels but I have a tiny bike what kind of tent would be good? And what kind of heated gear is good that you don't plug into your bike? Winter will be here soon and I will be on this bike everyday. Thanks for the advice

Adam when I heard you are going to start a run at FX HD in Watertown, I asked my wife if she would mind if I went on a bike run for veterans, she was all good until she found out I would be gone for around 2 months, but I would really like to ride with you.

Definitely an experience I'll never forget. I became aware of The Great American Convoy AND Adam Sandler about 2 weeks before jumping in at the Jackson, Wy stay and hanging with a fine group of people until Grand Junction. Meeting more at each dealership event and hotel stay. 4 and 18 wheel guests would ask what was the reason for so many bikes. Everyone I spoke to seemed inspired by the story. Hopefully this resulted in visits to the website and online donations. I came for the 'cause' .... The Wounded Warrior Project and got so much more out of 'the experience'. Everything you describe here about riding and riders Adam is the truth ! Thanx for exposing me to a new use for my bike. I just might show up at the KRiver with the rhubarb pie we discussed one eve. Hmmm, I might need to improve the suspension on the RK.

My recollection is we had 50 states. You should say all the lower 48 or continental states. I used to ride from Alaska to Wisconsin to see school buddies before going to Sturgis. Im 69 and still on two wheels and crossing the country and Canada. Only wish Canada would let me carry a pistol for protection from the bears. I go alone and yes tge first trip was scary but now its why did i wait so long in life to do it. Dont put it off for another day/time/year, go while you can or youll never go.

I stayed warranty, but now I wonder if tmax and cam will give extra boost for double up touring?? I had a tmax on last bike and dealers acted like plague on my bike!! And I wanted better mpg, my 20 is using hd auto tune , working real good with current setup!

You also gotta think about showers

I say pack as light as u can u can always wash cloths or buy new shirts from a Harley dealership on my week long trip I pack like two pairs of pants and like two shirts because I know I will find a dealership somewhere and buy a shirt
