I've been out for 2 years (a childcare leave and now a sabbatical). I'm having a hard time getting myself organized and motivated to go back in September. Thank you so much for this video!!!! I feel so much better now. You lay it out so simply. Whew! Do you have any videos on how to construct a lesson plan?

What's the reasoning behind splitting the Fitnessgram tests over several weeks? Shorter classes? More kids? I've always been able to get it done in one class period.

Hi Ben, thanks for your content. I really appreciate it. Can you clarify what you teach for Body Management and Locomotors? Are there unit plans for these that you have written that I can purchase? Thanks for the help!

I was looking that before your Spring Break week, you have a Field Day. Is your field day only one day? do you have any video with Field Day Activities?
@ThePESpecialist
@ThePESpecialist 7 жыл бұрын
Yep, I do a one day event. No videos on Field Day yet. We just rotate through about 18 different stations for 2 hours. K-2 goes in the morning and 3-5 goes in the afternoon. Mostly relay style games.

hey Ben, I think I've heard you talk about how you see your kids once a week (I could be wrong) but how would this video change if you saw your kids more than once/week? Just appreciate your thoughts.

I've had a few classes that had 2x a week PE and I used the same process, just planning supplemental games/activities for them but within the same subject as everyone else - since I got to see them more often it allowed us to go much deeper into the content and learn the things I had to skip with my other classes. You can either teach more variety of content, or go deeper with the content you already teach.

On your long range plan where you have more than one area for each month, for example (striking) baseball hockey or tennis, how do you decide what to do for that month?
@ThePESpecialist
@ThePESpecialist Жыл бұрын
For the striking sports I rotate each year, so I'll do tennis one year and then do baseball/softball the next year - I don't have enough room in the schedule to do both bc of once a week PE, but you can modify based on your situation

you have any tips for older students? grades 6-12 (2 week modules or?) Like Would you do Golf for 1 week or more??? how long do you think I should do each skill module?
@ThePESpecialist
@ThePESpecialist 4 жыл бұрын
Just depends on how much time you see each kid and how much content you want to try and fit in. Older kids can get into more gameplay and tournaments since you have more facetime. Check out our "Plan Your Scope and Sequence" episode of the Q &A Show www.thepespecialist.com/podcast/005-scope-and-sequence-how-to-fit-it-all-in/ Also - get with a secondary teacher and ask what they do, since I'm Elem take it with a grain of salt

I’m thinking about becoming a PE teacher, I know the pay isn’t super but how much would coaching 3 seasons (XC, Track, Track) add to the salary? Thank you
@ThePESpecialist
@ThePESpecialist 4 жыл бұрын
Totally depends on where you will be teaching. Salary schedules are public documents, just google the name of the district + Salary schedule and then look up their coaching supplements to find out what the pay would be

I actually have a similar yearly overview starting with team building, moving to fitnessgram and then onto throwing and catching. I actually meet with my students 3x a week for 45 minute classes. However, I noticed you spent a week on each of the Fitnessgram tests. How do you plan an entire lesson around one test? I feel like it must be hard to have the students practicing pushups the whole time (minus the warm up and closure of course).

I have no clue where you guys teach, but (no hard feelings lol) I'm so jealous. We have pe every day for 45 minutes with the same kids. I teach at a k-2 school and it gets so draining trying to keep it fresh, so I'm glad I found this channel. I'm like you... I have no doubt that you pull it off but am amazed that your kids can stay interested in just one thing for that long, much less over the course of multiple weeks. Of course with them only coming once a week I'm sure they are chomping at the bit to get it going. I'm 11 years into this and never can seem to find practical solutions for younger kids with such weak attention spans no matter what I try. This channel has already helped big time. Keep up the good work
@ThePESpecialist
@ThePESpecialist 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Blake - super cool that you get to see your kids so often, it gives you the opportunity to go deeper with them and get more practice time in. Yeah, a 4-week unit is only really 4 lessons, so even spending that long on it, the kids don't get much instruction, I'd love to see them more often - but we make it work. Glad the channel is helpful!

Hey Ben so I am just starting out as a PE teacher. Is it necessary to plan out your entire year .
@ThePESpecialist
@ThePESpecialist Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say totally, necessary, you can decide what's best for you and what works for you, but having a rough idea of your curriculum will help keep you on track with what you want to teach and give your program more intention and purpose

Ever think of doing the distributed practice model (a.k.a. Looping Program)? physedreview.weebly.com/uploads/1/3/0/8/13083192/k-5_p.e._looping_program.pdf
@ThePESpecialist
@ThePESpecialist 8 жыл бұрын
Yep, I love the looping program and the models that you've posted on your site. If I saw my kids more than once a week I think I would be all about it. I do spiral lots of content by doing stations to review past and future units and drawing lots of connections between all of the different units that we do. I think you can achieve a little spiral/loop element (if I understand it correctly) simply by the way that you teach your units and the activities that you plan within them. Honestly, I've been leaning towards doing a 2 year rotation model, because currently with my kids limited PE time I can't fit everything I want to do into one year.

How to manage a class with 30 minutes every day? I've got K - 12.
@ThePESpecialist
@ThePESpecialist 5 жыл бұрын
I've never been in that exact situation, but if I was I'd just use the same process to plan my units of instruction and then break them down by each class when planning the units. Start with the outcomes you want and then use backwards design from there to plan each lesson.
