Have you ever wanted to plant a whole forest? Gather up together with like-minded people and spend the day planting new life and prosperity? Mangroves are the trendiest tree in the world nowadays. Not only because it is easy to plant and it can easily attract many younger people to participate in the reforestation, but also because they play a huge role in the ecosystem and eventually in the life of people.
Mangroves bring life. It is that simple. You can see that for yourself. Let's take a look at the benefits it brings.
- It is home to loads of wildlife, both fish and birds. As soon as the forest is restored, life comes back to the region as well. We hope we don't need to explain the importance of fish to people, right? In brief - no fish, no sushi.
- It compensates for the salinity, saltiness of the waters, thus protecting the soil from erosion and making sure, that the soil in the region is healthy and fertile.
- Mangroves also serve as an economic benefit for the population - the oysters love to grow on the roots of these magnificent trees. Have you tried Senegalese oysters? They are delicious.
And much much more.
It is great to see that Oceanium in Senegal, founded by the legendary ecologist Haidar el Ali, manages to organize hundreds of young people to go out there and plant a whole forest. It is heartwarming to see be united around a common goal. And this enthusiasm allows them to plant over a million trees every year.
Be sure to check out their website to learn more about their work, and also our other videos about mangroves and how to plant them!

I am SO happy you got the joke ahaha. When we were there, the locals asked us to show the developed side of Ziguinchor "yes, show our skyscrapers", they said and laughed. This is for them, they laughed so much:))

Thanks for uploading this awesome video. How long exactly do Mangroves take to be adult from just seed? (I see those people planting twigs not seeds though)
@TheMeridianExpeditionJoin
@TheMeridianExpeditionJoin Жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the comment! They are actually very fast and can be taller than you already in a couple of years. What matters is that there are other mangroves around to help the seeds grow by providing shade, filtering the salt from the water and much more. It is indeed a seed, not a twig, as it may appear (it grows on the tree and then drops on the ground, into the soil and grows). The volunteers are planting them in a more thoughtful way and at the right time (when the tide is low) making sure that it is stuck in the ground. To be more precise, it is called a propagule. There are a couple of more videos about planting mangrove, going a bit into detail in the process. I don't know whether the links will work, but you are certainly able to find in on the channel. Microsoft Weather I use every day and you can help plant a Mangrove tree in Kenya through their program. I've planted 18 trees already. It's not much but I think every little bit helps.

The hotel should have in each room, a cheap tennis racket so at night the guests can launch those croaking frogs into the next resort. Love 15.

Has anyone tried grafting fruit to a mangrove tree ?
@Perankhscribe
@Perankhscribe 2 жыл бұрын
The mangrove has a complicated method of salt excretion. Grafting would probably have a lot of issues since the internal salinity would likely accumulate and kill non adapted limbs.

Duuuuuuudde this was the most enjoyable video I watched after a while. I really wanted to plant Mangroves but I am presently in a landlocked city, some 600kms away from all sea bodies. Wanted to know if I can plant Mangroves around fresh water lake or river banks? Loads of love.
