I bake egg shells in an oven for twenty minutes at 250 degrees, then cool them, put them in a blender to make them into small pieces/powder then apply to my garden

I saw a lady take the whole egg and put it in the hole crack the egg in the hole and put the plant in and cover up. Is that how it's done?

If you are going to bury your string make sure your string is not biodegradable. It does work and doesn't pull out or anything. But I did not think about this detail and a couple days ago (2 weeks after transplanting my tomatoes) the string in the ground has degraded and torn and I've had to go through and tie a loop around each stem.

I had peppers in the ground on April 15th, they had a 37 degree temp night while hardening off and a 33 degree night a week after being in ground out of 50 plants ZERO are the "mythical stunted growth" as they are currently 3.5 ft tall and loaded with fruits. Peppers are a perineal they are genetically adaptable to harsh conditions

I over-wintered my Better Boy, and pruned it to manage its spread. I just counted 19 tomatoes ripening. I also have volunteers that I moved a bit, but have been growing for 2 months already and are going on 5 feet tall. Yesterday, I put in my Ukrainian and Siberian indeterminates I grew from seed. It’s going to be quite a tomato season once the sun decides to shine here in So Cal.

What actually works to stop blossom end rot is thick enough surface mulch (1" plus) to keep the soil consistently moist. This is especially important when growing in containers since those will dry out more quickly.

Thanks for doing another tomato/pepper video. I'm a new gardener and because my yard is all tree roots and rocks under the lawn, I'm planting in 14, 22"x20"H pots. This year I decided to try growing seeds - there were some unexpected humorous surprises. But I wanted you to know that all the tomato seeds came up and as soon as they were an inch or two I put them in the red cups at the bottom and added soil as they grew. They all are doing well and compared to other things that stayed in the other growing cells, anything in the large or small red cups are doing better. Next time I will probably start them in the red cups rather than transplant. I started them on March 15th, they have been planted out on May 19th (With night domes - cause, zone 4) and are now about 20" tall. Thanks for all the instruction.

I use powdered milk to provide calcium to tomatoes. Just add a little to the water each time you water. Have not had any problems with blossom end rot.

I'm in SE England and need to put my peppers and tomatoes out but the weather not great, expect around 8 degrees C tonight. I'm growing Black Russian, Red Oxheart, Yellow Pear and Roma tomatoes and various HOT chillies. Another great video, thanks

Oh dang I put the crab and lobster in the soil with my peppers. Just ordered the kelp. Will see what happens. I have a very small garden so I grow my tomatoes in pots. I’m hoping my husband can build a structure to use with the string method. With the terrible heat we had in AR last year I’ve put the tomato area we’re it will be away from the sun when it sets. Lost all the blooms last year. Love the video. Making notes. Blessing❤️🌺

This makes me feel so relieved. Our planting situation is identical in that I put off potting up my tomatoes and they were turning purple. I just planted them yesterday. Glad to hear they're resilient enough to handle a little bit of neglect. 😅😅😅

years ago it was recommended (cannot remember who or where) to plant peppers n trios for shade and support. Seems to work. I am on the SE coast of Virginia.

Awesome video!! It's still going down in the 40's some nights here. So I haven't been able to put mine outside cause I can't trust myself to remember to cover them and uncover them. Hopefully soon though. I've been trying to focus on flowers this year to learn more. Need to go rewatch your dahlia video.

Your solo cup method is genius! I transferred them into even deeper cups and now I have beautiful bushy San Marzanos! I did the same with my Kelloggs Breakfast but they got early blight and it slowed them down (lost one). The roots are at least 12" deep and I have huge leaf growth and little flowers!!! I take it you don't have to worry about cut worms hurting your peppers. My Dad used to cut 4 " PVC pipe about 4 " in height and put it around his pepper plants to prevent the worms from eating the plants at ground level. I have since tried with and without this idea and have learned the PVC idea works. Here in Connecticut it also helps using this on my cabbage plants.

Argh! I watched this 1 week too late! I planted 6 peppers last week and they look awful. I threw Neptune's Harvest Crab and lobster in the hole. 😳 I didnt know that peppers dont like nitrogen... until today. 🤦‍♀️ Thanks Brian for your awesome gardening help.

I got some Kellogg's Breakfast seeds and thought I would try them since everyone brags about them. Well, here it is the beginning of July and I can't wait to try them. I'm in Zone 6B and the whole month of June it rained. They grew like weeds and are covered in flowers. I'm excited since this is my first garden ever.

I finally got my tomatoes planted last weekend. I'm planning to get some of your favorite Neptune's Harvest products but I see they only come in bags, not those nice buckets like you have. You said to remove the suckers because they produce more leaves than fruit but then you said we could grow them into new plants - would those plants have lower production than an original plant?

Yes they recently switched to bags. So I'm recycling my buckets. I haven't had them be as productive but usually it's later in the year so that could be part of it

I have at least a half dozen tomato varieties in the garden but I’ll never remember where I put them. Plus next year i’m going to keep my peppers in the house until June.

My tomatoes arealready full of blooms and the big boys are the size of baseballs. My yellow cherry tomatoes have over 100 tomatoes on each 5 plants.

Next year, I will try to remember to plant two peppers together. I'm currently growing 4 plants in 4 containers, when I could be using only 2 containers. I know you have mentioned it in a previous video, but I caught it too late this year. Not to mention all the information about seed starting, trellising, propagating, pruning, fertilizing and everything else you share...THANK YOU!

I am growing a Bush Steak and Bush Cherry determinants this year in my container garden, as well as a San Marzano indeterminant for sauce (hopefully). First time for all, will see how they do. They are growing rapidly and look great, per your advice from Tomato Tuesday!

For perfect watering: use a wicking bed. First invented in the Australian outback, you create a reservoir, separate the gravel and water in the reservoir from the dirt with a porus membrane (gardening cloth or used carpet works fine) then fill the bed. You have to water from the top when setting out plants and never water again, as the plant roots draw up exactly the correct amount of moisture. Refill the reservoir as needed (in my case, in arid Arizona, about weekly). Peppers and tomatoes love it.

During the early days of covid I was part of a circle of sewers who made face masks for nursing homes. I made 1000's of masks. I have a lot of spools of elastic left and you have taught me that I can use it for plant support. Thank you!

Do the same steps you do with tomatoes (like pruning the suckers, tying them up, etc) apply to growing tomatillos? I have a bunch of flowers but no tomatillos, yet my tomato plants are already growing tomatoes.

I have (had) 48 tomato plants and all are (were) doing great. I did have 1 Berkeley Pink Tie-Dye that started dying from the top down. I’m assuming it was some type of viral disease but was hesitant to cull it as it had 5 tennis size tomatoes on it. I topped it and trimmed all the dying branches until the tomatoes finally flushed enough to pick them cut the rest to the ground. I haven’t seen any of this on the other plants so hoping that was the only one. I haven’t been able to find any info that would have caused this.

I finally ordered the string trellising.. Game Changer !!! I did get the plastic clips, and they are great. I've used them on the tomatoes, cucumbers, and training the sweet pumpkins to a trellis. Though plastic, they're reusable and cheap.

I was watching another channel and when it ended, this video started playing. I was just putting my peppers in a box to start hardening off. You said do not harden your peppers to early. I put them back immediately. My last frost is after mothers day. Talk about your phone reading your mind...

Compost tea with Good Earth fertilizer. All you need. I had a 2 lbs tomato even. 12 ft stems.

The last bed looks like it is mulched with pine shavings like you use for chickens. I used that last year kinda out of desperation and it did really nice. I liked the light color. Thanks for the video. I'm new. Going back binge watching when I can. 👍

Been watching your videos and learning a lot, thank you. Going to put a garden in but am so confused with the NPK. Which vegetable wants the higher N or P Wouldn’t you give higher N at the beginning to get lots of leaf growth for tomatoes and peppers and then hit the plants after with more of the P and K🤷‍♀️Do u have a video on what numbers to give a vegetable. It would be great to have someone explain this to new gardeners. I understand what each number does, but as for which vegetable needs more of is confusing.

I will respectfully disagree with you in regards to the peppers. YES we live in Southern New Mexico. Our license plates are of red and green chile. Most consider New Mexico the chile (YES that is how it is spelled too) capital of the world. Getting to much sun??? Where we live triple digits are rather common in the summer months. Then we DO NOT shade our chile either. That includes ALL peppers. Second as far as pinching the peppers. That all depends on the variety. For some it helps and for others it does not. Anyhow, as always, Thank You for another informative as well as interesting video!

Great video! Aside--birds this year have been ravenous in my garden and are my new pest. never have had this before. They are going after foliage on peppers, eggplant, squash, cucumbers, radish tops, and dill. They devour all of these to the point there is not much left. I don't know if they are eating the foliage and/or using it for their nests. Everything is netted now, but they are still opportunistic if there is anything that might be poking out of the net they get. Anyone else have this? How did you deter?

I don't know, but maybe leave all that you prune aside for them and put a bird bath with water and maybe they will use what you give them.... I hope it works, if you try it and is working please let me know! Have a blessed growing season!

We always have issues with birds snipping into our tomatoes. I've seen and explanation that usually they are going for water, so a nearby birdbath or fountain can help. This year I'm going to hang shatterproof christmas ornaments all over my plants. You can paint them. The idea is that birds will go for red or orange or yellow ones thinking they are tomatoes, discover they're no good, and then move on elsewhere. The trick is to get them in place while everything else is still green so the birds don't get a chance to figure out you do have the good stuff there too. I may have missed the boat because I just got my first three ripe tomatoes today and the birds got two of them.

Ive heard a couple mentions of pruning indeterminates but not cherry tomatoes and still am a bit confused..for things like sun gold or super sweet 100, do we prune to single stem?

Those are cherries - don't prune except where you have to. They'll produce tomatoes everywhere once they get going. I let them bush out, but I'm not shy about pruning if I have to to keep them out of walkways - they are like kudzu. You can also collect suckers to start new plants or give to friends where they are getting a little too crazy. By the way I'm in central Texas, long hot summers. The trick to keeping them going is to mulch heavily, and prune off anything that starts to look old or brown or diseased. They do slow down or stop when it gets too hot but unless that does them in (mulching deep really helps here) they'll pick up again with any passing front or storm system that cools things off just a little.

It's been very cool and rainy here in the Eastern Sierra. Our tomatoes have flowers, but it's been too cool for them to set. Waiting for God to bring the sun and warmth.

A friend showed me that if 2 days before you want to plant it you out it on its side still in container where you want to plant it, it will automatically start to grow up. So when you come back 2 days later it is already layed down and you dont have to make it bend. I did it by accident once when a plant fell over before putting in its bed.

Excellent info in this vid!!! So critical to getting planting done right its critical for having a great season. How did your seedlings get so big...they are actually flurishing in solo cups. WOW!!!How many weeks old? What fertilizer did they get? & how often? I was told not to let them fruit in the cups, that its best to wait until planted and let plant get much bigger because fruiting early takes away energy needed for growth. Let me know if I should stop pruning off the flowers.

Wow, your garden is so happy - after all the issues the first year it's lovely to see it so lush. I live in the hi desert so LOADS of hot afternoon sun. I just plant the peppers where they get morning sun and afternoon shade - so eastern exposure. The tomatoes are farther out so they get a longer sun time. Good tips for planting - thank you.

Soil pH affects calcium uptake too.

Alot of times if you have the correct nutrients like calcium and the plant cannot take it up its because the ph of the soil if off so you get nutrient lockout were it cannot uptake the nutrients also cause by imbalanced nutrients.
