This was excellent! I have never grown those, and I would not have done even ONE of the things you said correctly! :-) So, thank you Sidenote, CG, I think a part of what makes Kim’s videos so amazing is the clarity and the color and obviously the filming details. You can tell that y’all have invested in this channel. 🎉

Absolutely excellent how-to on dahlias! Thank you, Kim! Fav points: 1. no neck / no eye = not viable 2. susceptible to rot from moisture. 3. Plant with tubers down, eyes up. Fantastic!

I purchased my first dahlia tubers a few weeks ago but haven't done anything with them yet because I haven't researched how to grow them. I really needed this. Coincidentally, I just received my order of CK 1-gallon smart pots in the mail. Now I'm all set! Thank you.

Thank you for posting this video. Two months I purchased a 3 pack of the Humpty Dumpty dahlias and was not sure if I should pot them since it's been so cold and wet here.😊

CaliKim you must be a mind reader because I just started something similar. I just indoor potted some Australian Canna Lily rhizomes while I wait for PNW weather to stabilize. I've never grown Dahlias (maybe next year) but now I know that if the tubers have no neck or eyes then they won't grow. I wonder if a similar concept also applies to lilies? Can't wait to see where in the garden these will go so I can duplicate your feng shui. Thank you for this interesting episode! 👉

Greetings 🌸 I got my 1st dahlia tuber. It's called Crazy Love. It's just one tuber. It's light pink with hints of lilac and yellow in the middle. Shall I put some bone meal and roc phosphate in the hole where the tubers go? Thank you for the tips!

I am really looking forward to your Belle of Barmera! Can't wait to see it! I have always grown dahlias, but will not do so this year. I will not do extra work in the garden and just let my berries and apples do their thing. They do not need my help in order to produce. :-D

I grow daliahs every year here in Santa Clarita, CA. They are prolific. I love the Pompons the best! This is the first year leaving them in the ground instead of digging them up and storing them. I picked a bad year to try that for the first time with all of the rain, I am afraid they may have rotted in the ground. Time will tell. I ordered several new varieties also. Waiting to plant them until the soil them is above 65 degrees as instructed by Swan Island Daliahs. Thanks for the video.

I just purchased some Dahlia tubers after attending a class on Dahlias. Your video was very informative. Can I move the Dahlia's from the Calikim boxes to the ground after they sprout? Of should I just plant the entire container in the ground? Thank you

This is my first year trying to grow dahlias. Did i completely mess everything up by splitting up all the little potatoes instead of leaving them attached together?
@CaliKim29
@CaliKim29 3 ай бұрын
Don't worry, you likely haven't completely messed up your dahlia-growing endeavors! leaving the tubers attached together can help with transplant shock and initial growth. Splitting up the tubers is common and is often done to propagate dahlias. Be sure that each piece has at least one "eye" or growing point. This is where the new growth will emerge from. After splitting the tubers, let the cut surfaces dry for a day or two before planting. This can help prevent rotting. You got this! Thank you for watching and subscribing if you have not yet! CK

@@CaliKim29 ok, i didn't know about the eye but i did try to break them away as close as i could to the old stem in the middle. They were my dads favorite flower and we just lost him this year so hopefully i can grow some beautiful dahlias in his memory. Thank you, liked and subscribed.

do you have to plant them into larger pots after this? The tubers seem so squished in! Let me know - would be great to keep them in smaller containers.

Kim - It would help your viewers (who are boomers turned more health conscious) to start using a more helpful analogy for soil consistency than "crumbly brownie mix". Or at least use two analogies for those of us who don't remember "crumbly brownie mix". Some of us haven't made brownies in 4 decades or more and haven't bought "brownie or cake mixes"in just as long or longer.
