How to PlastiDip Your Wheels (COMPLETE GUIDE)

I’ve made a video before on how to dip your wheels 4 different ways however I didn’t show you guys the entire process. So I didn’t show you the entire thing, thats what this video is. From beginning to end, I show you how I PlastiDip these BMW wheels gloss black.
If you simply want a matte finish, do not apply the glossifier overtop of the matte black base. You can stop at that point and call it a day.
In this project, I used 4 cans of black plastidip and 2 cans of glossifier. That involved doing 4 coats of plastidip over the front faces of each wheel and the barrels of them aswell.

@@Mcnutts3 Me too right before this one. I was about to do that process since I ran out of the Dip Release you put on the tires. Glad this guy showed that a simple tire shine spray does the same thing. I have tons of that. So im gonna go for that instead.

Wow, the result you got is so professional looking! It shows the attention to detail you provide pays off! One of the best plasti dipped rim jobs I've ever seen, I honestly can't believe it. I wish I lived closer, I'd love to have you dip my roof for me. I haven't had good luck with plasti dip, lol. But great job! Love your videos.

Easier to break them.looss while tires are touching the ground slightly if you dont own a impact gun. Then jack it up all the way.

They really look good, especially with the gloss. I'm going to do my Focus 17" wheels soon. The only thing is they look like it has a clear coat on them. Do you really think that I need to ruff them a little?

I sprayed the color dip with the wheels flat. It ran out of propellant in 30 seconds! According to DYC they said to never spray horizontally. I used up 3 cans of color dip on 2 wheels. The cans are all 3/4 full with no more propellant.

As a mechanic it doesnt work using a breaker bar with the tire off the ground.. It will spin the wheel unless someone has a foot on the brake or actually holding the wheel from spinning

Can you explain just what a "wet coat" is please? Does that mean just a heavy coat or spraying so you keep a wet edge like with house painting? Making sure you don't apply wet paint over dried paint on that specific coat etc. Anyhooo if you could explain that would be great. One problem I feel with dipping rims is the matte rubber finish. Its not slick like vinyl at all, the way I did it anyway. So im going to try the wet coat for a high gloss then apply the Dipcoat from Fonzie if that really gets rid of that very rubber feeling end result.

I see there's a balance weight on the face edge of the rim of rim. my question is would you just remove all the plasti dip and just dip it again if you want to re balance the tire?

+Dr. brule Changing the angle of your spray gun / aerosol can. Maneuver it so you can hit the entire thing with plastidip.

My center caps have an emblem that I would want to keep. Can you mask the emblem with tape or cut the dip when it dries?

rrrak86 If you want to keep them the same OEM color as before, just pop the center cap out and you won't have to worry about dipping it or masking it up.

I didn't like the tire shine when I did my wheels cause some plastidip gets stuck in the crevice between the rim and then hangs out after your drive the car lol. I feel like it make it peel up better too. Im really bad at dipping wheels u deffentely want to take my wheels off next time. Wanting black wheels on my wrx. I want it to stay forever though so I'm thinking of doing clear coat. Just use plastifip as a base coat. Cause the dip fades super bad. Ive never seen glosifier shine like that its usually satin instead of matte what!

Looks great, what do you do though when you have to swap tires and they have to take the leads of to rebalance them? I saw you dipped them as well (ex. @6:30) , do you have to redip the entire wheel, or can you just respray that small section?

+Nighthawk117w If you mount new tires on your wheels, you will have to remove the original ones that have dip on it and you will have a small spot on the wheel where its OEM paint. I will show you how to do a video on dipping dipped wheels. You can respray the small section but you need to do a full coat over the entire wheel afterwards

I just did all 4 of mine today, one coat for each, then the 2nd, 3rd and so on. I would say do each wheel at a time start to finish. It would take longer but I feel that is a slightly better way to do it.

Not sure if you're aware that using an impact on chrome plated nuts/studs can beat the plating off and cause rust. Couldn't tell if yours are plated or not but be cautious. Better to use a breaking bar to loosen.

Yash Kaloti Sure can! I have an instructional tutorial on this channel about it. That is a lot of material. You'll need alot of gallons along with a lot of the balloon white flake. If you are going to do it yourself, I say it would cost around 500 bucks ish, if you're going to bring it to a professional to do it, it'll run you close to 1200 if not more.

i'm actually doing my rims today but I don't have jack stands so I can't do the barrow but i want the same gloss finish tho with out taking my rims off my BMW. i want that same high gloss finish smooth slick look like yours. and should i wait until I buy the dip protector? Or can I apply later?

Fonzie says the first coat should be very light, but you say to lay it on thick. Does that make it harder to get off?

+Ben Dunnigan Getting your coats down is all that matters. Its not about number of coats, its about quantity of plastidip laid on the wheel/car. I like spraying wet from the very first coat, but thats my preference. There isn't really a big difference between either application but if it works for you going light, go light.

+Sick Dips I imagine the reason for going light on the first coat is to minimize running on that and subsequent coats. If that isn't much of an issue I'll just go heavy. I'm planning 4-5 coats of black with 1-3 coats of silver metalizer. Bringing a set of 18" OZ UltraLeggera from stock aluminum alloy to a Hyperblack/glossy gunmetal. I want to do it right the first time so I'm researching as much as possible.

Mine look badass from 10 feet away but up close you can tell there’s smudges and some overspray🤦🏼‍♂️ took it off and tried to redo but can never do it perfectly. I didn’t remove the tires though I don’t have a jack.

i bought one brand new jack n it broke...why?? coz i let my car jacked for too long...i read the instructions n it says that its only for lifting, needs something else other than the jack to keep it holding for long time

+Lou K Around 4-5 hours, depending on the temperature. The warmer it is, the faster it will go because the dip will dry very fast.

Feroz10 Ahah cuz we have another project coming up soon. 2 of his rear springs were cracked and rusting so we bought a set of lowering springs. When we do that, we'll take care of the brake rotors and callipers 👍 I'm glad i'm not the only one who's attentive to details ahah

Hi, i have a question: i used plastic dip to dip my wheels yesterday, and today while i parked my car, i found there are some spots that are not covered as much as other area,(i took the car out for a drive yesterday after dipping, and it was raining today), I am just wondering if i could add some coating to the missed areas? will it stay? have you ever tried it? thanks!

Titanium Rabbit It will stay however if you want it to look nice, you will want to add plastidip to those areas you missed, along with a FULL wet coat over the entire wheel so nothing looks weird. Make sure you clean very well before applying the new dip :)
