Which means you can play it on both. Easier to hear a breakdown with short hi-hat notes than with long notes from a ride

I feel confused i always taught this was 6/8 timing. Is it 4/4, and 6/8. Some teachers from Harvard counted the American shuffle all in 6/8 which comes from the African rhythm. When did it become considered 4/4? I understand that its 4 groups of triplets, but i have always been taught to count these shuffles. 1-2-3, 1-2-3, or 1-2-3, 4-5-6. 6 eights notes, 6/8.

You can play a shuffle in 6/8 too, but this is 4/4. Don’t know who your teachers were, but maybe they favored 6/8? 😅

Why is this a Texas shuffle and not a Chicago shuffle? Can you describe the difference between the two? What about a Kansas City shuffle? Or my favorite shuffle of all, the Nebraska Lefty Reach Around shuffle?

Texas Shuffle is the most common name since a lot of blues bands out of Texas used it. But Texas-, Chicago-, Prima- and Full Shuffle are originally called "Double Shuffle".
