A lot of us know Sammy Hagar as the red rocker who has a fantastic solo career even today, or as the singer for Van Halen in the Van Hagar years. Before all that, though, there was Ronnie Montrose, a killer guitar player who had a band featuring Sammy Hagar on vocals. Rock Candy, Space Station No 9, and Bad Motor Scooter are some of the songs from Montrose that made them famous, and songs Sammy brought along with him into his solo career. I think it only does Cadd9 first time after that power c, but yes, occasionally it goes back to the Cadd9

Why not play the D-riff on a regular D-chord? Same notes without the stretch.

He says whammy bar stuff on the intro> WRONG! Ronnie played it with a slide and a guitar tuned to open D. A lot of drive pushing the amp to replicate an engine revving

@@jimiaxe Actually, Ronnie didn't play it. Sammy played it on a lap steel, but with the open tuning. If you ever spend some time listening to some of their live recordings (not all), Sammy plays that intro. Otherwise, most of the time, Ronnie would use a Theramin in concert. Crank It On UP!!

@@stevewheels9773Not true Sammy only played it that way live in his solo career. I saw Montrose with Sammy live when the first album was released & I saw Montrose the band & solo about 6 additional times . Ronnie played the intro while messing around in the studio with his guitar tuned to open D playing slide guitar thru an Electro Harmonix Big Muff fuzz box into a Fender Bandmaster amp with a 3x10" speaker cabinet. Ted Templeman heard him and told him to play it again so he .could record it. Ronnie used a Theremin on Space Station #5 live not Bad Motor Scooter. So awful 'blade on glass' guitar tone in this video. It has nothing in common with Montrose compressed, neat 70s sound.
