Matt Bellamy stumbled upon the main 'paradiddle' theme whilst jamming on a Hotel Steinway.
He started laying the paradiddle on just two notes, constantly playing it, over and over again until he got to a point where extra notes were sort of finding their way in there. He built it up to the point where he was playing five-note chords on the piano and it was sounding heavy. He then developed a chord structure, and was then thinking, "This could be something".

I think that Muse has some pop elements to their music

@@tobij7300 Not really... well maybe time signatures... but other than that they are quite progressive... plus ask anyone who is into pop music if they like Muse and 99.9% of the time they'll say "Who?"
