Try chipping it in, dump and chases used to be the key to NHL people had strayed away from it depending on the mode but it is like an old reliable if you are having issues entering the zone

Captain Raymond Holt love the name hahaha anyways yea offensive zone has a lot to do with the strategy you set if you really read them in the settings it will tell you what they are meant for and which type of game you wanna play and I switch mine constantly through a game to adjust because any of the guys in the top 500 have at least four types of ways to smash you!! Angles handles puck movement and cycling will crush you!! The best advice I can give you is play smart hockey don’t be fancy stick to one and one coverage and shoot the puck!!

I gotta agree with you, Brian. I used to play a competitive platformer, spacing was an important aspect with attacks and such... Well I utilized this knowledge when coming over to hockey, practicing my skill stick, always. Imagine a world where NHL players never learned to use their sticks for defense? Once one has a mastery of the skillstick, it opens up new avenues for body checking to come into play as well.

After a couple months of trying I am finally shutting some people down with this technique. I love how sometimes it almost becomes a check and you shove people off the puck with it. Thanks for the video.

My observations are similar to yours. Also find that with lower stick check, the release is also slower so you time it faster accordingly if you want to let it go to avoid a trip

I play on Xbox, and I find it’s just impossible to play consistent good defence, even looking at the leaderboards a lot of the elite players still have a lot of losses. It’s the same with goalies, some games they play good, others you’d be better off playing with your goalie pulled haha. The game speed is just so fast now it’s really hard to switch your players in time and get them in the right position without taking a penalty.

I get 40-high 40 defense everytime, defensive skill stick to force defenders where you want, anticipate passing lanes and you will get alot of takeaways, use stick lift when even with opponents and on their stick side and poke checks only when you have the space you really have to be more careful much more than previous years, but the biggest tip is to be aware of where your opponent is at all times

I know this is an old message but my advice is to not use turbo when you don't need it. It seems like passing and stick handling suffer when the boost button is held down. It's fine on breakaways and defense but I've found it's much easier to cycle if I don't hold that button down. I used lose a LOT. Now I win about 70% of the time.

I been defending with skill stick for 2 years now and im always at 1-3 tackles, it has it bad side also and now i have tried to use it a bit less and its good to not use it that often, usually when u use it u dont get the puck, u just poke the puck from opponent and it goes right to his own guy again, rather just not use it and skates next to opponent and u actually get the puck instead of poking the puck away to his other player. Dont use it on ur zone, the passes go through and u wont get the puck, but if u just stand on spot and dont press r1 u actually get the puck urself.

Is there a good way to defend against a puck carrier skating bacvkwards though the neutral zone without taking a penalty or putting myself out of position? thanks
@Brianstormed
@Brianstormed 4 жыл бұрын
You have to stay in front of them and in position. As long as you don't overcommit and move in one direction when they spin you'll be fine. Many times they will spin back toward you and lose the puck because the puck will hit your skates.

You use the clip at 1:17 as an example of how to use the skill stick but the puck still went right by you and had your guy not had been there it would have been a goal. Nothing against you, it’s just how bad this game is. It’s easier to intercept/break up a pass unintentionally aka have it hit your skate or stick, but when you’re in PERFECT position to break up a pass it goes RIGHT BY YOU.

Nevermind, I figured it out. Just like that real life advice. Just keep my stick where he's gonna shoot. Don't over commit with th body! It's great on the forcheck. I've been leading with it as I approach my opponent deep in the offensive zone , then letting go before I trip him and it dislodges the puck ! Been working like a charm!

Works against normal players but try these tactics against L2/LT abusers, or what I call them, spastics and you go nuts about the amount of tripping penalties. Compine that with them using the skill stick to protect the puck and they have created that goddamn shield that makes the puckholder like a lubricated toad. Hitting, they don't land on them unless you're on that 1% straight angle to their face. Going 30mph with raised elbow to their shoulder, no, you can't do that, because EA physics. Against those spastics, you can do only one thing. Stand still in front of them and hope that there will be a coincidental hit on the puck and they lose it for a short period of time. It's not hockey and doesn't even remotely remind you of hockey, but you see the "best" players abuse that system all the goddamn time and that's what makes this game such a joke. If you don't believe, watch NHL esports, what a fucking joke of a hockey game.
@Brianstormed
@Brianstormed 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly, it'll work against most people. Against people who back skate, it won't be as effective. What you mentioned is the only tool against back skaters, and you hope that they just skate into you to lose the puck. Something definitely needs to be done about it. Someone suggested a change to their endurance, making back skaters lose stamina faster, and under a certain amount of energy you can't backskate effectively (you'll lose the puck).

Brianstormed yes I copied your strategies to a T, my players don’t pick up loose pucks like my opponents, my players lose the puck super easily, they get knocked down/off the puck by little defenders with a low checking overall and I have Burns/Hedman on one D like and they very rarely bump people off the puck and when they do my opponents player does a reach back animation & keeps the puck I’m at the point where I think EA just hates me hahah
