The Bhangra Zone is excited to share this new series of videos which teach those of you who are watching how to play Dhol. The lessons are delivered to you by a Dholi who goes by the name of Taran Sanghera. Taran has been playing the Dhol from around the age of 6 and has also performed professionally at events.
These lessons will enable you to learn the best Dhol beats which can be used across the spectrum at different events, or for your own personal leisure. 2 videos will be uploaded per week, with each video concentrating on a new beat.

I just love the Chaal. I live in an area where there are a few Indian weddings and I'll never forget waking up to this at 7.30 on a Saturday morning. There's nothing quite like it. The timps come close.

Hi Taran, do you always release tension in the dhol (on the bass side) once you've finished playing for the day? I'm looking to practice the dhol every day or two, and am wondering if I should leave the dhol tight or release the rings for the bass side after I've finished playing for the day and retighten it every time I play again. What do you do?

kuljyot singh ruprai I know this may sound really annoying but practice! The more you play, the better you will get and your strength will increase. Try to play for at least 30 minutes a day and you will see improvements within the first 2 weeks!
