Thank you. That is the BEST lesson. My sole desire when I purchased the Duduk was to play this tone. You have fulfilled my desire. Bless you!

Eduard, what you call "air leaking" is not a problem, that's real duduk sound. A breathing sound is the soul of essence of duduk.

Hey, I've been playing woodwind instruments (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone sax, and bass clarinet) for about nine years now and embouchure, breath control, and vibrato are something that are very familiar to me, do you think that it would be beneficial in learning to play the instrument? Along with this, I've seen advertisements for duduk mouthpieces that are essentially clarinet mouthpieces. Since this is a single reed mouthpiece on a double read body, do you know or think that the tone or ability in changing tamber would be a bit more limited or vice versa?

+Sam Flint Hi Sam, I'd only learn to play duduk if it's something that is a burning passion for you. It's quite difficult to learn so you really have to want to do it. Yes, I have seen clarinet mouth pieces on duduk. The sound is similar, but it is a single reed, so you're just not going to get a true duduk sound. On the other hand, duduk reeds can be a real pain to maintain, so it might be a fairly graceful entry into duduk to start with one of your familiar mouthpieces.

Damien, usually a duduk player performs with another duduk player that plays a drone; so circular breathing is necesary

Hi, this might be a strange one but I'm looking for a Duduk that plays a low Eb (E flat) not but I'm not sure which one can reach that low. Do you know which one I should be looking for?
@duduklessons72397 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't. I believe the G duduk is the lowest, which would give you a low E. You may have to look at installing a key in order to get lower notes (like on a clarinet).

How do you know if you have a good duduk? I have 4. One I bought on eBay, another I bought from a duduk website (they sent 2 duduk to me!) and the last one I bought in Yerevan. The one on eBay I paid $40. From the website, I paid $250 and from Yerevan, I paid $100 (USD) They all sound almost identical (some individual nuances, sure) but my ear is not perfectly trained on the matter either. The build quality seems ok. There are no hideous gougings or shoddy woodworking. The one from Yerevan smells like smoked meat. I am not sure what that means. Thank you for your lessons! This is a very wonderful find!
@duduklessons72399 жыл бұрын
Smoked meat? My lord, that sounds mysterious. It is quite possible to find useable duduk bodies for a cheaper price. If the intonation is fine, then you're good to go. But it's really the reeds that are the most important for getting a good sound. I've spent very little on duduk bodies, but a fortune on reeds!

I believe the smell is linseed oil, it's the standard treatment including high level Duduks like from MKS.

how we can clean it?
@duduklessons72396 жыл бұрын
The same technique that you would use a flute. You'd need a thin rod with a cloth attached, so you can pull the cloth through the bore. I don't know how to clean the reed, but if you find out, let me know. I imagine that they would get pretty scary with bacteria after a while.

Could you play (if you wanted to) the instrument with less breath noise? Or is that the nature of the "beast". The recordings by Djivan Gasparian in Gladiator is played so clean.
@duduklessons72399 жыл бұрын
Audun Jemtland Hi Audun, Yes, you can regulate the breath noise, and it's not necessarily the nature of the beast. Personal preference. Also, it depends on your miking position. Closer miking will give you much more breath noise. Cheers, Mark

I wonder why Duduk players cant use circular breathing like didgeridoo players? is that helpfull or not?
@indiefilmandmusic10 жыл бұрын
Hi Damien, Yes, actually circular breathing is a standard technique for the duduk. Typically a student will learn to play a long steady drone using circular breathing while the master plays the melody. Circular breathing is a great technique for building up strength in your breathing and your embouchure. Thanks for mentioning. Perhaps I'll do a tutorial about it (although I'm not the world's best circular breather!)

micro films You are very welcome :) I played didgeridoo about 2 years and i learn to do that by myself and also i watch many videos on youtube ;) so i think is helpful !! :)

This instruments range is very limited, not more than an octave.
@alpenjon3 ай бұрын
Incorrect. It's an octave plus 3 with the holes (one is on the low backside) +4 if you tighten your embouchure at the high note.
