Just finished my first dynasty draft, 24 hr picks, took 8 days. By far the most fun I’ve ever had drafting. I’m commish and set it up almost exactly how you suggested. Great video!

After being out of work all summer due to 2 back surgeries, I finally found y’all and have feel in with the KZfaq channel and Tik tok account. After several years of a redraft league me and buddies were looking to start a dynasty league and there couldn’t have been a more perfect video to help get it started up. I'm a first time commissioner and I have a lot of redraft guys in my league. We're planning on doing a 30 round draft but the first 15-20 rounds are on a 5 minute clock. Once we hit our threshold we are planning on switching to an 8 hour clock so people can do research on the 'lesser known players'. Also having a scheduled break in the draft is a nice thing to do

@@rando151 we ended up compromising and doing a 5 minute timer for the first 12 rounds (only a few people took the whole time) and then we moved it to 2 minutes to just get it over with. It ended up being good but we did not make any trades in the draft, which I was disappointed with.

Optimal Roster Setting is 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 3 FLEX, 1 SFLEX, IMHO. I also prefer scoring .5 point for rush/receiving first down and .25 point for passing FD. .5 point ppr. TE Premium is very important to create more even positional value. I don't go crazy, though. TE only gets an extra .25 point per reception and .25 point per reception. Some prefer twice that value for TE premium. It's also very important that you do something to make the playing field as even as possible for the Start-Up Draft. Otherwise, it is too much of an advantage to draft early, even in a snake draft. 3rd Round Reversal is a step in the right direction, but not quite enough. My preferred solution is to separate the start up draft between vets and rookies. The vets are drafted first. The rookies afterwards. The draft position for rookie draft is the reverse for veteran draft. 1.01 in veteran draft gets the 1.12 in rookie draft, as an example. Doing this or something like it will give everyone a fair chance.

The tiered receptions idea is great to make tight ends worth more. In normal ppr or half even with premium there’s still such a value drop after the top tight ends off the board, so that helps out a lot there

Why do you have to make TE worth more? Why can't they just stay where they are? Should we give pawn pieces in Chess the power of rooks, and rooks the power of queens? Trying to artificially make all players of equal value by handicapping some (4 pts for QB TDs) and (.5 pts premium to TE) is just bad game design. If you disagree with me then I guess we need to contact Milton Bradley and tell them to change the rules of Chess because some game pieces just have too much value over other pieces. 🤔🤔🤔

I started a dynasty League after watching this video with my redraft league guys and a few others that are serious. Thank you! Question- I set roster to 28 spots and then supplemental draft to 4 spots which is the rookie draft correct? Now it shows the draft is going to be 32 rounds. Is that correct?

Hi Nick - do you know of any strategies for adding a new team to an existing dynasty league? I’ve heard of expansion draft approaches but those seem to either (a) leave the existing teams resentful or (b) fail to competitively equip the expansion team for the upcoming season

you can have draft spots decided by maximum points for (like bestball style), so whoever truly has the worst team is the one that gets the first pick

My second question is when setting up the league and settings if I’m doing superflex on sleeper, superflex isnt listed as an option under the “scoring for rankings’’ so do I click 2QB or set it to Dynasty Half PPR (thats what we are doing). I understand that the number of superflex/ flex spots are determined in a separate settings area. I’m talking specifically about under “scoring (for rankings)

In a very deep 10 team keeper league, superflex. We keep 15 per year and have roster sizes of 25. For whatever reason couldn’t get everyone on board with a full on dynasty. Are there any pitfalls that come to mind where this could be an issue? Only thing I can think of is not being to have roster room to see guys at the end of my beach have a chance to develop. And there could be some weirdness in the draft. Rookies plus young vets plus nearly washed vets

So using your rosters sizes in this video of 28 and 4 taxi and assuming rookies are included in startup draft. My question is; is your startup draft then 32 rounds and post draft at some point you assign 4 rookies to the taxi squad. Everybody would need to I assume draft 4 rookies total throughout the draft?

So I'm setting up a dynasty league for the first time and I'm curious what you think of a "5 year bonus" to inventive owners to keep playing. For example $200 rolls over each year into a 5 year pot and the owner who has the most championship wins over that 5 year period gets $1,000.

i still think that leaves any "bad" team open to leaving at any point. we did something in our yearly redraft league, where 10% of the buy-in each year went to a side pot and we'd roll it over until the 4th year aka the "world cup" year and whoever wins that particular 4th year, wins the regular pot plus the 10% of those 3 years

In my humble opinion; every dynasty start up draft should be an e-mail auction draft with a huge stock of drafting capital. Nothing is more fair. It allows for more creativity and skill. If you want Josh Allen and Diggs, or you want three top ten running backs, or you want to stack all Bengals, this is the only way to do it. You'll have to pay, but in that format, almost everything is possible.

I thought this way at first as well. But here’s the thing, so people might not be good at auction drafting which can already imbalance the league off rip. Snake drafts automatically starts everyone off level with each other, if you have 2-4 people who haven’t drafted in auction style drafts and they do really poorly, you’re setting the league up year 1 with people with really good teams and people with really poor teams.

With an 8-hour clock, is there a blackout window during normal sleeping hours? If someone enters their pick at 11;30 pm, that wouldn't be very convenient for the next guy to try and utilize the hours between 11:30 pm - 7:30 am to offer up trades to league mates. How are night time hours handled?

Hey, as someone new to dynasty, me and my friends are trying to start a league. I'm still a little confused, for the first year do you just do one startup draft in the summer that includes all the current players and rookies that were just drafted into the NFL? Or do you do the startup before the real NFL draft and then do a rookie draft after?

This is our 2nd year in the dynasty league. Last year I drafted Cam Akers JK Dobbins and Etienne on the cheap because they weren't going to play. I blew up my roster other than those 3 Rbs, J. Jefferson, DK Metcalf and K. Murray. I was awarded the 1.01 as I was last in 2021. It's 12 man .5 ppr 1 Qb league. I traded D. Watson. M. Thomas M. Sanders and A. Mattison in 4 different trades and received 1.02 and 1.06 this year, two 2023 1sts and two 2023 2nds as well as Z. Wilson. ( I still have my own first round pick in both this year and next) Total picks 3 1sts and 2 2nds in both 2022 and 2023. I'm going B. Hall and D. London with 1 and 2. Hoping J will falls to me at 1.06. Any advice moving forward?

Hey Nick, what’s your opinion on doing a start up with snake vs auction draft? Some of the guys in my league are dead set on auction but I’m concerned some managers with less dynasty experience can completely wreck their team right from the start with auction. i dont personally do auction so i cant really speak on it - but from what ive gathered from people that do play auction they wouldn't go byke. only one way to find out

One way that has kept my longest dynasty league running with auction is having contract lengths. Not only does it mirror how the NFL works, but it can also reward savvy dynasty players and doesn't stick noobies with a bad auction amount for the entirety of their dynasty league.

Starting an IDP superflex dynasty with tiered PPR this year with my boi, I initially was thinking 8 people but after watching this it seems like 10 or 12 is the way to go. Is 8 too small of a league even if we have like a bajillion roster spots to fill with IDP? Btw great shit

8 is pretty small, it might break up the league into straight competitors and tankers which is a downfall of a small league. personally would rather loosen up the settings if it meant being able to expand the league size. the rules being really nuanced will probably confuse people and get them off to a really slow start which can kill a dynasty league imo . but if y'all are set on the IDP go off.

The main things I dislike are no super flex and our startup draft is 2 mins a pick. There’s also no incentives to keep people in and I’m worried that half the league will dip after a couple years

Nick, I have a question, what do you think about limiting specific positions in Superflex Dynasty? I have been in leagues where people horde Qbs, I mean 6, 7, 8, qbs. A lot of league mates find it frustrating and find it not fun. Curious on your thoughts. Thanks bro, great content.

something i'm a bit torn on , i've dealt with this on both sides and id say the lesser of the two evils is allowing as many players at a position as possible if someone wants to do that let em - y'all can always let him rot without trading lol

it's a tough fix but if that's their strategy that's their strategy, at least where they're drafting the player everyone is in theory getting a player on their team of equal value. not like trading away 10 picks for 1

I started my first dynasty league in 1995. In that startup draft, no trades were allowed and everyone drafted to fill a roster that had pre-defined roster spots. It may have been something like 3 QBs, 5 RBs, 7 WRs, and 3TEs. This was my attempt to have the league start off with some degree of parody to keep everyone's interest going forward. Once the draft was done, I took off the training wheels and roster construction was wide open. Nick touched on experienced dynasty players crushing newbies early in the league and this was my attempt to rein that in a bit. To be honest, it still happened but it took a little longer.

I'm sorry, I guess I explained context wrong. So we had 2 brothers I a Superflex Dynasty league and both took 5-7 qbs a piece in the start up. I completely understand acquiring qbs over time but I just thought that was a little excessive for the start up. A couple league mates weren't too happy about it.

it can yeah , i should have covered that. i've been in leagues where 3-4 teams ranked and it ruined the league. you can offset that by having the 1.01 go to the 1st place of the people outside of the playoffs, etc. but there's always the fact that someone had to pay 2-3 years of buyins before tabling successfully

99% of picks dont take the full 8 hours, sometimes 4 picks in a row take 30 seconds

yes, better to just stick to 10 committed players than to add 2 flakes just to get to 12 in dynasty. If going with 10, would suggest adding more position players or flexes to the starting roster. Makes weekly start/sit decisions more fun plus not as loaded waiver wire

yeah it's quality over quantity, adding two extra dudes just for the sake of doing it if they're not actually invested isn't good
