These are the most useful lessons on youtube. -- quick tab of the riff -- 2-3 different ways to play it on the left hand -- 2-3 different ways to play it on the right hand. Great format, keep it up!

I didn't see this when it dropped but I've been trying to get this one up to 100% speed past few days. This has to be the cleanest performance of it on KZfaq. Nicely done. The only way to get this right is to make sure your playing it perfectly with a metronome and slowly build up the speed.

I am a step-dad and I can barely play a little bit faster than your step-dad speed lol. I didn't notice until I recorded myself and listened to my playing as a listener. It's been hard to increase my speed now that I'm 45 and took a 15 year break. My fingers just don't move as fast as they did when I was younger. I love your videos Ben. Thank you!

@Drew Johnson that's just lack of practice, your hand agility will come back, and all the info is still in your head. I'm 55 and started playing guitar when I was 13. For some reason I stopped playing in my early 40's, then last year I committed to getting my chops back and it worked. Just pick up the guitar and play a little every day. Doesn't have to be an hour or anything intense, but commit to playing at least a little every day. It'll come back, I promise!

One thing i noticed if you are trying it with an analogue delay its better if your run this in the fx loop and only run a digital delay in front of the amp. Running an analogue in front of a driven amp can get too mushy and becomes a mess unless you are playing it exceptionally clean.

Not only do I appreciate your attention to detail and your thoroughly informative lesson here, but I also appreciated the various not-as-recorded techniques you offered up as alternatives. After fatiguing myself tonight trying to play it the right way, I think I just may give a go next time to the 4th-fretted B swap. Very happy I found your video!

For those wondering what the piece of gear that was used for the studio recording. The roland SRV 2000 was the unit used for the delay. The boss dd3 gets close, but the SRV 2000 has a unique sound to it. Can't recall the settings atm, but the unit run through an amps effects loop will perfectly replicate the recorded intro.

I GREATLY appreciate this man! I’ve loved this song since MTV first started playing the video at an odd hour because the content was controversial at the time. Slash was the reason I picked up the guitar. In all those years I felt like, for whatever reason, I could not get the intro quite right. I can’t even say necessarily what you did different here that I haven’t seen before (and I’ve seen that video w/Nikki Sixx you mention)…but this video undoubtedly helped me nail it for the first time ever! So, again, thank you so much from a lifetime GNR fan!

This is amazing! Thanks so much. Glad I searched for it. The first few videos that come up on a search are very wrong - picking, delay, tone, all wrong. (One even admits it!) Yours is spot on. I've been listening to this riff since '87. Thanks. And you're a great teacher too. (It's) So easy to follow.

Couldn't smash that like button harder my friend! My "official" Cherry Lane TAB book left this intro looking like a garbage truck hit it, and all the lessons I've come across followed suit!

I own the Gold Top 50's Standard as well as an AFD Slash. Great guitars. Great video as usual Uncle Ben (though you're easily 20 years my junior). LOL

That view of Slash's DD-3 settings is killer. I taught myself guitar in high school playing along to Rush & Black Sabbath records in the early 80's. I would've gone to extremes to get ahold of any of Alex Lifeson's FX settings circa 1982!

Pick it with your fingers until you have it nailed, then switch to a plectrum, worked for me. Nice 1 Ben 🤘x

A common misconception is that there's delay in the opening riff. They were setting the delay rate and left it there at the beginning but there's actually no delay in the intro.

In the Nikki Six video, why does Slash say "there is an open E"?? did he make a mistake? I don't see an open E anywhere. Please explain.
