Two reasons I remember Zon basses from the 90s: Michael Manring Zon ads in Bass Player and the part in the movie Airheads when Steve Buscemi's character demands a Zon bass for when the band plays near the end of the film.

For a while in the early 90s music journalists talked about "funk metal" and lumped FNM in with Living Colour and Primus. But FNM were way more all over the place than that.

Probably the most influential bass player for me. And without a shadow of a doubt the most overlooked. His contribution to bass in modern rock and metal is absolutely huge, much more than the likes of Claypool’s even, but Billy’s playing is still accessible without being bounded to the convents on playing a backing role on the downbeat.

I've been really digging the Dobermann tracks. It's great to see someone who is cataloguing so many approaches to bass playing in action, and see what stylistic decisions he makes in his own playing.

In "falling to pieces" he does not bend the E on the fifth fret, he's doing "trills" on the first fret of the A, you can see it in the videoclip and also in the live videos.

Thank you Paul! Billy Gould is my absolute hero. The first song I've ever learned was Digging The Grave back in 2015. Not the hardest one but anyway it takes a lot of energy to play it correct. Still trying to cope with Evidence though :D

I've seen Mike patton wear a primus frizzle fry shirt. Mike loves Claypool. Two big legends. They both didn't work together because both are very control freak and both are super creative so that just doesn't blend well.

I never noticed those parts that repeat a single note before. Epic and We Care A Lot basically just have one note?! Whatever works!

Well yes and no. The main riff of Epic is one note, but during the guitar solo, there is a bass solo happening at the same time. Listen to the isolated bass track, i never realised until i tried learning it

As a smalltime bass hack I used to be, it always made me sick to play unison with any melody instruments, I always intended to play a unique line of my own to back and complement the melodies. And Billy has a great deal of inspiration in that. Great great bassist!

Once again, I suggest Muffi Puffi of Hevisaurus. He can somehow switch his bass from supporting, to melodic, to a lead instrument, and is able to fit a lot into his basslines, such as the pentatonic runs of Vaaralinen aivastus and the entirety of Louhikäärme ja ritari. You won't find much info, because Hevisaurus isn't very well known outside of Finland, but under the costume, he's played by Vesa Kuhlman (Currently) who used to play bass in Dingo.
