RULES:
The object of the game is to be the first player to get 4 in a row. Pick one player to be the caller. Mix up the tabla cards and give one to each player, along with a small pile of chips. Shuffle the deck then the caller draws the top card and either says, sings, or creates a riddle about the card’s name. Now every player who has the matching picture on their tabla, places one chip on that spot. Repeat the process until one player has 4 chips in a row either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, then that person yells “Loteria” and wins.

My Hispanic grandparents have always played this game. But they did it so that you had to get all 16 spots on the card! Edit: They also gamble coins such as quarters (mainly just for fun) and whoever wins gets all the coins

Also known as Mexican Bingo; this was the inspiration for the CBS television game show "Loteria Loca," which I quite enjoyed.

As far as I know, to win loteria you need to fill your card. I was not aware of this variant.

Another way to win is by making a square with the chips, either by doing it with four connected chips or putting one chip at the corners of the card
