Hey there, I recently discovered you as I have developed a renewed interest in learning about what I've been afraid to learn and study all my life. I am 54 and am finding things I should've known at 16 about playing guitar. Thanks for this video as I can now grasp the concepts of what's happening when I see and here Tony play. It's not so scary anymore . Gotta long way to go to execute what I'm learning but you've brought me to a point where I can stop saying "How is he doing that?" I get how t's done now. Hope this makes sense. Thanks again.

Great lesson. I just down loaded your book. Thank you so much (I did make a donation). One comment I would make would be to emphasize how Tony loved to mix major and minor in such a sophisticated way which in this case included a Cmaj7 arpeggio in the second to last measure before heading back to the minor blues scale - a a very classic Tony Rice move. One I have always loved but never understood until very recently.

Awesome Marcel, I have to put you on pause a lot ha ha to try and keep up! I’m still hammering away at Lonesome , Onry , and Mean!! I studied the song and it seems like the lead parts switch back and forth between major and minor pentatonic when playing over D chord. It’s awesome and a lot like you showed me the steel guitar licks in the recording seem to be d major pentatonic while the electric guitar leads are in d minor pentatonic when playing over the d chord. There may be an odd chromatic note thrown in for each if it sounds appropriate!

Man, I really appreciate your lessons! I learn a lot from them. I’d like to hear your thoughts on “the f# giving it that Dorian feel”. I think that would be Lydian. But that blue note is Dorian for sure. I’m thinking in C Major terms though.
@atakurt6055
@atakurt6055 2 жыл бұрын
The key is A so the F# is the sixth (the characteristic dorian note) I know C major has the same notes as A minor but the tonal center isn't C. Hope this helps

Hi Marcel! Thanks for posting, and giving some insight on your take of one of the indisputably greatest acoustic guitar players of all. One thing that has always impressed me about Tony's style was his use of Floating Licks. One of the craziest examples, that I never quite satisfactorily figured out myself, was that break on Buge Call Rag from the album California Autumn. Are you familiar with that? You seem to take this stuff very seriously and have obviously done a lot of homework! I personally would love to see (and hear) your take on that! Thanks again and keep up the good work!

are the boxes you talking about the CAGED "system"?
@LessonsWithMarcel
@LessonsWithMarcel 6 жыл бұрын
The CAGED system and the major pentatonic scales overlap. So they're quite similar, they kind of work hand in hand. In this case I was talking about pentatonics. You can learn a little more on my website here: www.lessonswithmarcel.com/the-caged-system

Why do so many use "boxes" like they're in denial of CAGED sequence language. We could use some standardized language here folks! Stop being so goddamn jealous about it! That's the only reason I can think of that they don't use the same language.
