I saw this pit of sand one time at a resort and thought it was just a stretch of sand for you to throw the metal ball as far as you can... And that I did. LMFAO.

Sweet, I used to play Petanque in club (as well as Handball, and Football what you also call soccer) until my early 20. This is a great game. It needs concentration, tactic sense, and bring some fun (also when you discuss, and desagree about points, that you have finally to measure the distance from cochonnet ). Nice to see some american play Petanque. THere is just one thing missing in your tutorial video: where is Pastis? ;-)

Jon Sm And better memorize EXACTLY where your own ball falls. Sounds about as exciting as dart throwing. Won't be long before someone is hurt (could be used as weapon).

Sometimes.... depends on how much you consider heavy. Then again, child's petanque boules are rather lightweight. If you stand behind someone about to throw the petanque ball and they hit you, though... that does hurt.

Similar, but with subtile differences, for example the goal is a small ball, wich can (voluntarily or not) be hit and moved during the game, and the fact that you play in 3D. and thus, can't have the goal blocked by a ball in front of it.

If you can't handle balls of steel, play with your plastic bocce balls on your manicured lawn, it is nice start. After a few years you might learn enough to play Petanque. Until then just stay with your rolling game, it is complex enough for some.
