I've always found this tapping lick from ‪@plinimusic‬ Electric Sunrise a bit hypnotic, so wanted to figure out how to play it, and I figured maybe a couple of folks might be interested. Also, I was watching the Tim Miller jam with Plini live over this tune and thought I'd add part of the backing track to facilitate going between practicing the tapping lick and improvising over the chord vamp!
The preset I'm using here is "JCM800 35"

Looking forward to seeing him on the UK tour - with Jakub Zytecki in support - another great guitarist from that generation. I'm 52 so maybe seen quite a lot of players over the years but still loving all the new stuff and seeing where guitar playing is going. Your playing is awesome as usual too John! A lot of Satch and Vai in Plini's playing.

I'm the same age and I'll be seeing them in Phoenix. Can't wait. I haven't missed a Plini tour in years and always love seeing him play, but I've never seen Jakub. Super stoked. We're also getting Intervals (supporting Spiritbox) again this year.

Bridge pickup on that guitar, with the tone you've got set up, sounds remarkably like an oboe on several notes during the tapping licks!

Great song for sure. What preset of yours were you using? I really like Handmade Cities, Cascade, Salt & Charcoal, the super-massive alternate picking run near the end of Inhale, and the ultra-Vai-esq tapping run near the end of Pastures by Plini as well. Maybe you could do some lessons on these.

I would love to see you tackle the solo from Erra’s Hybrid Earth. The ending bit is really tricky. Been at it for months and still not up to tempo comfortably.

Excellent, I shall learn this tonight. Bring on more Plini-esque lessons please. One more thing…..Take the damn tag of your headstock, why on earth would you keep it on?? 🤔

I’m 70 years old. I don’t understand why you talk about Helix and brand name sh*t, settings, etc. You play what is arguably the BEST GUITAR playing I’ve ever heard in my long and varied guitar- the things that you play at the beginning of every clip, before you get to the “lesson” blow me away. Yet you seem to think product stuff is important. Maybe to some, but I speak for many I believe when I say you don’t need any “product hype”. You are so good, I just turn it off when you go all product commercial. You play things that almost bring me to tears when you just play, improvise, etc.... at the beginning of all your videos. I would watch you play regardless of whatever product you eventually go to. Is this a necessary monetary thing?? You are like Eric Johnson+Jack Rouch in one package. And make it your own. Whatever- Cheers and best wishes.

The tap is easier when you realise it just follows the beat of the backing riff. Dah - Dum - Dah - Dum - Dah - Dum - Dah - Dum - DahDah - Dum - Dah - Dum - Dah - Dum - Dah - Dum - DahDah

The tap is so hard to get in perfect syncopation with the rest of the riff. You really gotta work on the space between each hammer-on or it ends up rushing/dragging the tempo because your brain just wants to play this in 4.
