100%. Got into a lot of Reggae and Reggae fusion style artists and they've heavily influenced my playing. It's so much in the feel. I played for so long before really understanding what that meant. The second you feel it, thats it. You can't unfeel it.

Very true. I know so many guitarists with amazing gear that play too rigid and rushed and nothing has any feel or hook to it. Most of them tend to shred or be frantic.

Bless All! Just to "touch" on the subject of amp settings... I suggest that the cleanest possible setting be found from your amp with "Treble" being the highest of a 3 band eq range. For example on some "Fender" tube amps, I typically use this formula "7-5-4". 7 Treble, 5 Mids, 4 Bass. Add a "pinch" of reverb for taste and if your amp has a "presence" feature, to use that above the half setting... Some comments posted by observers are totally "wrong" and misleading. In a two humbucking type of instrument, I use the middle position for most rhythm parts as it gives a fair balance of lows (percussion), and highs (chime)! More is coming! Please be patient and watchful. Endless thanks to you all!

Reggae is American soul with Jamaican ska/ mento slowed down All based around the blues scale which almost all western pop music uses It all goes hand I hand They all share the same characteristics just different swing , accents and inflections to make each genre its own. Blues, soul , funk , reggae , jazz. All share similar themes from time to time and groove ability. All very different but utilize same construction materials and building blocks at some point

"The bang, skank, chop etc." A good music teacher doesn't just teach you how to play the style. They teach you about the culture behind it and the people it comes from. And that's all that section of the lesson was about. The good instrument teachers also teach you history through music.

@ottodrone6173. There is a great deal of arrogance in the ignorance of youth. This I'm sure is the reason more than anything else... As we who are of a certain age and experience seek to learn things that expand our minds and introduces us to the panoramic view of life, art and diverse cultures! Thanks for detailing your thoughts here and now... We will soon be expanding the outreach with a course on the instrument! Please check in for what is hoped to be a very definitive experience! Bless

I've been teaching it for years at Berklee College of Music (where I'm on the piano faculty). It's a fantastic class and ensemble that takes a DEEP look at Bob's life. Also, class participants will get fantastic tips on their reggae playing as we remotely put together a recording of one of Bob's tunes. Starts June 2, 2020. @dimitrigodhead1969. Such a big difference between being inside looking out &. outside looking in... If the music is not native to anyone, then in order to overstand it, One has to step forward with humility to "learn" how to participate! I just try to open the door for guitarists and musicians to enter into a realm of knowing how good the music can be! Bless and thanks for the comment!

Tuff Lion Thanks Tuff!!! I grew up listening to reggae and I became really sad in the eighties when the music became "digitized" and was played on "phony" instruments. Your video really is great and educational and I can see why it has so many views. Keep it up bro!

Abdul Razak Harun Salaam Abul! I too lived through the digital era of the music and many musicians suffered from lack of work during that same period. Time is full of cycles and I have to say that I give thanks for not "caving in" to trends on fashions. Playing guitar in almost all of it's forms has been one of the most rewarding and enjoyable facets of life for Man on this earth and no matter what, I was (and still am) determined to become the player that I know with work, I can be. I Raspect the power of Roots Reggae and that is why I take the simple art of playing "riddim guitar" so seriously... Thanks for your thoughts and expressions in this regard...I really apprecialove knowing that this offering has had an impact on the community. Perfect Love!

You learn to play guitar all your life,,,,,this man was so easy about his skills..I’m a country boy...but I appreciate mastery..when I come upon it,,,,and bow to the teacher,,,,hopefully I will acquire a few of the simplest chops,,,and go on from there,,,I couldn’t ask for a better teacher.

Greetings Richard! First, this is NOT Tuff Lion responding. This is Matt Jenson [Art of Reggae], the person who produced this video with my musical brethren Tuff. Wow! Thanks! Yes indeed, when you see mastery, it's made simple but when you try it, it takes some practice, if not a lifetime of experience. But personal experience is what you put into it to make it your own. Look for more masterful lessons on Art of Reggae, soon come in April! Thanks to Tuff Lion & Matt Jenson for posting this video & sharing....I should say taking lesson on nuances of Reggae.......... I enjoyed the way you play..... especially when you raise your head closing your eyes enjoying the sound you produced... Another person whom I love watching.... doing like that is BB King .... both of you in your own personal world when whole world is in front of you ....... you are down to earth when you say that every guitarist puts his finger print on the music he plays .... "I cannot be you & you cannot be me" ...... yes the same song played by another person feels different .... all along I thought it was his style....now I know it is his 'finger print' !!!!.....Very nice & I hope some of us like me will stop trying to follow everything verbatim while playing......& Thank you once again for this video.... I love the way you teach ...Keep posting...& Take care.

Hail Asoka Rathinam! Apologies offered for not responding to this writing earlier.... I am totally humbled and thankful to read your thoughts and impressions of this current offering. It is a joy to actually "know" that this offering is moving across the planet and enlightening so many. Yes, playing the guitar has a way of transporting the mind far away from the body. In development, many emulate the One who appears to be rated the "best" and relies upon "their" values as a base point... for some, this period lasts until they surpass their "idols" in skill level or accept their own potential to create and appreciate their own innate sound, worth and value. You appear to have crossed that threshold and are now on your way to your own sound. Give thanks to Matt Jenson for being the consummate musician/educator that he is. I too thank him for being present and aware enough to even "think" about presenting Man to the world in such a way. Hope to connect with you again in the next edition! Be You!

Indeed Spykerhond. So poetically said! I produced this video with my dear friend Tuff and I wanna let you know that I'm offering my Music and Life of Bob Marley class online, WORLD WIDE. Check the details here: www.mattjenson.com/bob-class-summer2020 And sign my mailing list to receive updates on my soon to be released reggae educational platform, with Tuff on board, called "Art of Reggae."

Yes Yes! The energy is in the intent! All the while I was developing my "style", I had the intention to place the instrument in a stronger position by being deliberate with the timing of the rhythm... Harmonic Percussion is the best way for me to sum it up! Give Thanks!
