It's kinda crazy how many variants of this there are. The one I'm familiar with has you "add" to other people's melds on your own side of the board (so they only score for you), and scores are done by counting the values in your melds. 2-9 = 5pt, 10-K = 10pt, A = 15pt, Joker = 25pt; Cards remaining in your hand are subtracted from your melds. Also the Ace can be both high and low, forming a loop, so the run KA2 is valid. Melding your last card doesn't end a round in this variant either, a round can only end on a discard. Games are usually played to 500 or more

I️ guess we’ve been playing our own special way lol if you’re left with cards in your hand, your number goes negative instead of going to the winner. And if there’s a card in the discard pile that can be played on a meld, we yell rummy, slap the pile, and take that card for points for us. We also allow you to pick up from anywhere in the discard pile but you have to take all the cards on top of the card you pick up from. 🤷🏻‍♀️ still fun!

To your first point, the outcome is the same either way. Your way: if I have 50 points, you have 40 points, but you have 10 points in your hand, then you can subtract that from your 40 meaning you now how 30 points, so I win by 20 Other way: I have 50 points, you have 40 points, but you have 10 in your hand, you give the 10 to me, so now I have 60. I win by 20 Either way I’d still win by 20, so it’s the same

GatherTogetherGames also. There is a game we play called wizbang. I found your channel because I was looking for card game tutorials hoping to find one in wizbang that I could send to friends. Maybe they call it something else where you are from? Game: Everyone has their own deck of cards that look different. (important for the end) Next you count out 13 cards for your wizbang pile and they face down except for the top card. Then count out 4 cards face up beside your wizbang pile. Then you hold the rest of the deck in your hand. Once everyone has done that you start the game. There are no turns you just go as you are able. The game starts by someone having an an ace. And you take the remaining deck of cards and flip every 3rd card to see if you can play it. While waiting to ve able to play you can use the 4 cards facing up as a solitaire board. All cards have to be same suit when thrown in the table You start with ace then go 2 to King. Once someone throws down a king that stack is closed. The object is to get as many cards out as possible and to get through your wizbang pile. Ever heard anything like? Hope I was clear enough

Hi, does a player have to have laid down a meld before he can start laying off cards on to someone else's meld, or can he/she do it at any time. Also, once you have laid down a meld, can you add to it later? Another question, if you pick up a card from the stock pile, can you discard it immediately without adding to your hand, or would it be better to add it to your hand then discard it, so as not to give too much information away? (and does the same apply in Gin Rummy?)
@GatherTogetherGames

I think you need to clarify that.

I have just watched a different video on how to play Rummy, in which it is stated that a player is only permitted to table one meld per turn, and must wait until their turn comes round again to be able to table any further melds, if that is the case, then the only ways to go Rummy would be to have miraculously been dealt a ten card straight flush, or to table one meld, then lay off all the other cards onto other player's melds. @@annie128h Just need to make 3 or 4 cards of the same number or like a straight flush and put aside. After that you can discard 1 card and the next player starts. Check the objectives section to see how it is. You will need to play at least a few times to really get it if you still can't. Play with your friends. 👍

Hm...so if a player has a meld in their hand when the game ends, nothing 'special' happens, they all just count as points to the winner (scored the same as though they were not meld cards), if I'm reading that right. It counts for points where if the player had played it down, it wouldn'tve counted for points.

First of all, I love the way you explain and demonstrate card games, I am learning so much. As I am just starting to play Rummy, there are some things that I am not 100% certain about. At around 2:48 in the video, you state that if a player has not laid any cards on the table, and is able to get rid of all his cards in one go, that is known as "going Rummy" and he is awarded double the pip count remaining in the other players hand or hands. Now, I understand that that means not previously put down a meld, or laid off a card or cards onto someone else's meld, but does that also include the discard? What I mean is, if a player has already discarded a card on his first play, then Rummy is no longer possible, or does the rule only apply to melds and/ or lay offs. If it DOES also apply to discards, that would mean that the only time that "Rummy" is possible would be on any player's very first play, because technically, he has laid a card on the table.

I still dont get it why when you discard a card, it placed to the "opponents meld area", if the card is possible to place in their opponents meld area. doesn't it helps the opponents to win?
@stuartrobinson2983
@stuartrobinson2983 4 ай бұрын
After you have picked up a card from either the "stock pile" or the "discard pile" if you then place it on one of your opponent's tabled melds, you are not discarding it, you are laying off, discard is when you place a card onto the discard pile, and should be the last act of your turn. It could potentially help your opponent in that he may have the next card in a sequence, but it is also beneficial to you, as you have gotten rid of one of your own cards, which is the aim of the game. Hope this makes sense.

@tacocat-c
@tacocat-c 3 жыл бұрын
I used to play with my grandma and dealers choice...sets only, runs only, sets and runs, or around the corner. Around the corner was when you can use the ace with a king and a 2. We didn't score like this video. 10, jack, queen, king were 10 points, ace was 15, and the rest were 5.
@reillywalker195
@reillywalker195 3 жыл бұрын
In most circles, no, the Ace is never higher than the King in melding. Such a rule makes sense since it makes Kings less dangerous, but it makes Aces too overpowered unless you make them worth 15 deadwood rather than 1.

Canasta and Rummy are closely related. Both are melding games developed from the Mexican card game Conquian, but both took the original's concepts in different directions. Rummy games are about racing to meld all of your cards and go out to score your opponent's unmelded cards, while Canasta games are about scoring for your own melds and going out after fulfilling a melding requirement.

There is multiple ways of winning, and you have to have 7 cards to win, forming a set, wether its a suit of hearts etc or 4 spades 7,8,9,10 cards and 3 diamonds 4,5,6 cards to forming a set win in any combination 3s suits together forming 3 cards of diferant suits, ace,king,queen jack etc.
