Yeah, Man!!! Jackson, J.D., Don and Glen and you get the California Sound, Man... (Edit) and, Like a Rock! Of course Duane leaves/left an impression.... I heard/saw some guy on Sullivan playin' this xylophone looking thing but without sticks...his hand was flying around on his right, his left was going back and forth...I had no clue what this xylophone was in 1961 but I was hooked on the tone...the sounds...forever.... imagine how I felt when I learned it was a Pedal Steel GUITAR....Guitar? huh?.... hooked for life.....

Just finished watching your 37+ min interview with Carl. Still mightily as ever. I regret not following up with the classes i briefly took with you years back , by now i would probably be a guitar hero had i continued. Rouzbeh always had high regards of you, in fact he always mentioned he learned a lot from you. You're like a guitar dictionary with all those different styles you master. One day i might stick a pencil under my nylon strings guitar and turn it into a hybrid ;)

Thanks a lot Juan. Hardly any slide nylon players out there, you could own that!

Great work. As you said this solo is pure magic. Dave L did a great bit of solo on Jimmy Barnes" Driving Wheels". Do you reckon you could have a crack at that and upload a video ? cheers from Australia.

Great tutorial on such a fantastic solo. I am beginning my lap steel journey and would like to ask your advice on which tuning is best to begin with. I presently play guitar. Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks Frank. If you’re wanting to play Hawaiian or Western swing I’d recommend starting with C6…otherwise definitely open E. It’s a very versatile tuning, the theory is fairly easy and strings 1, 2 & 6 are the same as standard tuned guitar. Best of luck to you.
@frankortega42803 ай бұрын
@@SteveCunningham007 Thank you Steve. I really appreciate your response. I have another question if you don’t mind. If I start with E tuning are the gauges the same as a standard guitar or should I use a heavier gauge? I will be using a 1960’s era Fender Champ Lap Steel.

Thanks so much for this lesson. I wanted to ask about the LapSteel you use for the C6 part of the lesson. I have that exact same one. I wanted to know how old it was. When were those made? I keep that one in C6 tuning and then I have a cheap Rouge lap steel that I keep in regular guitar tuning cause that I know where the notes are. I think that the old leilani sounds so much better. I think that the pickup is a big part of the tone. Anyway, anything you can tell me about the Leilani would be great. thanks
@SteveCunningham0073 ай бұрын
I’d guess it was made in the 40s or 50s by a company called Valco. There are a bunch kicking around with various names on the headstock…I have another one that’s labeled as a Bel-Tone. They both sound great.

A great meny songs and licks demonstrated, and yet I didn't find my favourite song by David Lindley at the moment. I've looking quite some time for instructions, tabs, chords, or even better, a tutorial how to play Rag Bag by David Lindley. Do you do any lessons on this song...? For starters I would like to know which tuning he is using. I mostly play my dobro and lapsteele in open G, but I also familiar to open E. But I haven't figured out which one he is playng Rag Bag in....

If you listen to a few interviews he was tuned way up to A on a short scale cool arrangement though.
@SteveCunningham0074 жыл бұрын
You are correct. I relied too much on anecdotal evidence...when I watched a video (after seeing your comment) of Jackson Browne's band playing it back in the 70's, the few times they did a close up on Lindley he was playing in 12th position, indicating the A tuning. My bad.
@Guitarista1294 жыл бұрын
@@SteveCunningham007 The intervals are the same, and few of us have steels tuned to A. I have wanted to delve into Lindley's work, your doing the heavy lifting is much appreciated!
