Here is my complete tutorial on "how to" learn, practice, and play the Kinderszenen Op.15 No.1 by Robert Schumann.
In this video, I show and explain how to learn, design, and perform this delicate piece of music.
I will tell you about phrasing, timing, pedaling, and then we will put everything together.
Von fremden Ländern und Menschen (Of Foreign Lands and People) is the first piece from the cycle Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood).

I really like how you talk about imagining the feelings behind the notes and bringing them into your playing. Excellent lesson overall. The only thing I question is your pedaling recommendations. Schumann notated the bass line in the first section as eighth notes separated by eighth rests, and only used quarter notes in the bass in the contrasting second section. Using pedal throughout would blur this difference, would it not?
@Antune
@Antune 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! I make the contrast with the articulation between the first and second sections in the bass line. In the first section, using the pedal throughout surely keeps the blur but not as intense because I pause with my fingers. Another alternative that you can try is to implement a half pedal. Still using it the same way, but by pressing halfway. That will make the bass disappear even more, and you can hear the pause more clearly if that's what you want. Good luck!

Love your tutorial much and sorry about your camera position could you please put the camera above you it will make the video more stable and I can see your finger movement in playing the melody
@Antune
@Antune 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dhira, Thank you for the comment. I have several reasons to keep the camera placement as it is. The first one is that I want to present the exact angle as I see my hands. I believe, the viewer must see the nature of the hand movement through my eyes because I think this is the easiest way to understand what I am showing and explaining. The second reason is that body movement has a huge impact on phrasing and timing in general. Those two things aren’t always the easiest to explain in words. Therefore in my experience, the movement adds to my teaching. The third reason is that I can show the right or the left hand in a specific time for the certain passage that I want to be the focus of the attention. For me, the above reasons are very essential to my teaching. All the best!
