As a newer AOE4 player, I love your content mate. Main the English but thinking about trying to learn a new Civ and it’s tied between the Chinese and HRE.

Chinese Imperial officials are really annoying and buggy, and given that you already main English and that Chinese is another archer civ (at least in early-mid game because Zhu Ge Nu), might make sense to main something else like HRE or Japan which are both melee infantry civs, for a change.

The most different thing Chinese can do in FFA comparing with ladder is, they can actually build granaries inside imperial academy for infinite tax gold. Picking 3 side of the academy, you can build the granaries in the middle and mills on the corner, then fit the last side with 6 barracks and filled the rest of space with farm. If mills are inserted properly, no tax will stack up then you can build infinite palace guard or fire lancers even you have no village on gold. And btw, skipping the wheel barrow is legit as it decreases the tax rate. In the the late game more tax gold will be more critical than just higher base working rate.

Palace Guards are fast, and Free-for-All (FFA) maps are too large for standard melee military units (MMA). In the late game, Palace Guards have extra HP, making them some of the best MMAs in the game. The Chinese have the best hand cannoneers and also possess the Imperial Palace landmark, which is the best landmark for FFA. Overall, the Chinese civilization is not easy to play but is very flexible. While the Chinese may not be the best civilization in the game after two hours (as the English can generate gold), they are still one of the best civilizations for FFA.

Don't know if Chinese is really the best FFA civ. English and HRE are pretty strong too. Palace guards don't look so good against Man at Arms and Landsknecht

Palace guards are fast, and FFA maps are too large for normal MMA, in the late game, Palace guards have extra HP which makes them one of the best MMA in the game. Chinese have the best hand cannoneers in the game. Chinese also has the Imperial Palace landmark which is the best FFA landmark. Overall, it is not an easy civ. It is very flexible. I think maybe after 2 hours Chinese is not be the best civ in the game(English can print gold), but it is one of the best civs in ffa.

im a completely new player to Aoe...i came from 10 years FPS games lol, surprisingly i love this and have enjoyed "chilling" even though it hurts my head sometimes. I still do not know what FFA means though, can someone enlighten me please
