I agree it’s good to not use default dead at negative HP rule. It’s much more common than exact 0. What I like to use is the Death & Dismemberment aka Horrible Wounds system made/adapted by zordvil (or vil) for Mork Borg. You stop at 0 HP and negative bonus damage corresponds to a table by damage type. The higher values do result in instant death or when fail toughness roll, but lower has more effects similar to Broken.

it is very low. Have to turn up my speaker volume twice what I normally have it at.
