Thank you! I just bought a new FireTV and almost threw it out the window thinking I couldn't play my VCR on it. Took 3-5 minutes for the scan, now the VHS tapes look pretty clean on the 4k TV. Awesome!

Genius.....got myself a new OLED and no love with analog inputs on the new stuff....tried my old receiver into my new one but HDMI handshake issues...used this for video and analog assigned I/o for audio....and had everything in the closet......thanks bro

Great video. Just bought a brand new LG smart tv. Still have the VHS player to play those favorite old tapes. Hooked it up with just the coax cable as you said. No audio or video connectors needed. Changed the input to cable tv, and put in channel 3, and it worked. You're a genius, I probably wouldn't have figured this out on my own. Liked!

Thank you @HelpingHermit for sharing this with us. I followed your instructions, but the audio on my home recorded VHS videos does not work on my TV. If I use a store bought VHS, the sound works, but not on the home videos. I also get the same results when I use the yellow, white, red cables. I have a Heisense Smart TV and a Samsung DVD/VHS Dual Deck Player. I used to use this VCR on an old TV in the past and the audio always worked fine. I've tried this with several different home VHS videos with the same results.

Great video everything proven people like myself are fixing broken vhs tapes with Scotch tape it starts playing again with out no problem's keep your mode switche clean out in your VCR player if you don't know what a mode switch is you can go online and say how clean out a mode switch in a VCR player

Hi, just watched your video...great directions; I have an Emerson smart tv and trying to connect Panasonic VCR, model# PV-7400, S/N G7IA93572; I currently have my tv connected to an external antenna so, my question is...do I have to switch between the external antenna with the antenna connected to back of vcr (using the coaxial cable) when I want to watch a VHS tape? I tried to follow your instructions by connecting the VHS/DVD to the antenna of the TV but the TV doesn't recognize the device. I have a 55" LG TV don't know the model (it is from 6/30/22) and a Panasonic VHS/DVD DMR-ES35V. Hope you can help. Thanks.

After so many time of watching this video I got my smart tv working it’s a LG smart Tv I purchased a device off of Amazon set my tv on HMI 2 to get my tv to play the vcr and dvd player to watch dvd /vcr movies the device is called a HD Video converter make sure to get the one that say Av to HDMI

This will work obviously... however the resolution is going to be awful. Amazon sells adapters for this for about $10 and it upscales to 1080 🤔

Hi, I have an old VHS JVC HR7655EG which has a 6 pin din connection on both sides but my TV and receiver don't have that type of connection. Is there a 6 pin din connection on one side and RCA on the other. I tried but had no luck. Hope you can help me. Cheers

Hi there- my old Sony VCR was hooked up fine to my RoKU TCL TV. It's set to Live TV channel and no issues until a recent Power surge. Now I can't get the VCR picture on TV or menu settings. I've tried everything and although it will play the tape, nothing is coming thru and I can't seem to change to channel using the VCR remote. Any suggestions? I appreciate your tutorial ...

Update after a month. Had to buy a new tv (couldn't find a 19" smart tv, so got just a 19" tv without the smart). Next I know, I'm watching a vhs tape on it. Also, the tapes I said had no audio...I can hear them now, for some reason. At least I can with 1 of them. Had another problem with the tv not recognizing my new laptop after using it for 2 weeks connected with hdmi. It works with the tv just fine now. Happy camper!

I have a new Samsung tv. My vcr is a LX1, made in Korea by sears. I first tried hooking it up with the av tricolored connector. I got audio but the video is like black and white static. So after watching your video. I tried the coax cable and got nothing. I don't know if I'm not finding the right source or what. Any suggestions?

Chances are your vcr has a problem, try another one or, if you want to delve deeper into the topic, you might try cleaning the video heads on your vcr. Might wanna watch a tutorial or two on that matter.

Use either coaxial or composite (red/yellow/white) cable. I found component (r/b/g/ + r/w) didn't work. It would only allow the DVD portion of the deck to play. The tv didn't even see the VHS side when the combo decks were set to VHS.

So I have an old Sylvania 4 Head Hi-FI VCR, have the exact same coaxial cable you linked in your pinned comment, got it hooked up as tight as I can get it, and you know what issue I've come across? A Black and white picture with every-now-and-then flickering and/or tracking. I think it's a problem with the VCR, but I'm not entirely sure. So I'm stuck trying to figure out how to fix it. Came across your video in the midst of trying to fix the problem. On my TV, I've gone to Menu, Broadcasting, Cable, and Scan (there's no option for Antenna). But I'm still having the same issue. It's kind of interesting and cool to see an episode of Goosebumps in black and white, but now this is really bugging me as I'm having trouble trying to find a solution.

YOu may have a PAL version of the tape, US/Canada is NTSC format. PAL is europe/australia. Your best bet is try a few different tapes.

@@tricatfilms6136 I also tried a VHS full of home videos, but I got the same result, and I'm very sure the tape itself is NTSC. EDIT: I just looked at another tape that I had tried, and it's marked NTSC. Same results.

@@delisaloran I eventually determined the problem was the VCR itself. Least to say, I threw it away and managed to find a decently priced new one on eBay. With a completely new one, I've had no problems.

I found *component* (R/Y/W 3 wire cable) works for either VCR or DVD. ** But composite (R/B/G video + R/W audio), the TV absolutely won't see the VCR at all.** I tried this with 2 different VCR+DVD decks, Sansui and Sanyo, different ages, like a 2005 and a 2015 era, and the TV would only see the DVD part of either. After much Googling, I finally found a discussion thread that says component for DVD only and *composite* for VHS, because the VHS signal is so low resolution. After switching my two decks to component, they work great. The TVs they are hooked to are a Magnavox 2015 32" LCD capable of 1080p and a Westinghouse 2018 24" 720p smart TV, but it's barely smart. The Westinghouse upscales the VHS better than the Magnavox does. Either that, or the 24" size just works better for low res video.

if you are doing this on a samsung (im on a samsung q60a) remove the 'samsung smart tv plus' app on home screen. then it will say 'tv' and this works. thers no way to do it from smart tv app from what i can tell.

Talking about VHS, our VHS player doesn't work. Sometimes, it starts to switch on and switch off randomly. Also, when it's switched on, if I put a VHS video, it immediately eject from the player and on the TV it appears something like a menu in black and white that isn't clearly what it is.

same thing with me.. some of our old tapes that we recorded footage on when playing on the VCR I can hear a little bit of audio about 3 seconds of an image, gets shaky and then goes to black.. super wierd and think its my tapes but could be wrong😭
