I have learned everything I know about glass polishing from Mike Phillips! Those rayon pads do last a long time which is good. This process is time consuming so price accordingly because your shoulders will burn a lot! It is nice seeing Mike on this channel as he has so much knowledge and is a very good teacher!

I have tried a lot of methods over the years and I honestly think people have this backwards. I use the firmest foam pad i can find and the heaviest cutting compound to correct. Rayon and cerium oxide is just too slow and often does nothing. I only use a rotary because i want pressure and i have found a forced rotation machine wants to skip around too much. No more than 1800 rpms but pressure. It will correct for you and much faster in my experience on who knows how many windshields. I use 1.2 micron cerium oxide and a rayon pad to polish though as it really leaves a clear finish. Yes, be careful of heat but usually your arms will need a break well before you overheat the glass. Another thing is if it's an SUV don't even try unless you have a very solid base that feels like you're on the ground. It's too physical a job not to so just trust on me that one.

Hello car supplies and Mike. It's great to see Mike. I took a course with him a few years ago through Auto geek at Simon's Shine Shop in Chicago and wondered what happened to him because I have not seen him on their site again.

Its pretty funny, years back when i first started my business i bought several polishes a pile of rayon, and never was happy with the results. On none of the videos i watched, i don't recall it on the back of the bottles either, did i hear or read that it would take an hour. I always went until the polish dried up, wiped it off to check, and chalked it up to just a way to remove water spots. Decided not to offer it as a service and closed the book on glass. Of course mike would be the guy to teach me so much in just a few short minutes. Now im going to take a crack at glass again! Thanks mike luckily i own a couple rear wiper cars that have very very heavy wiper marks. Im excited to see how it works out!

I live in Palm Springs California, we have continuous sand storms wings very strong which sometimes reach over 75 miles per hour, the sand hits the windshields of the cars very hard scratching making millions of little dots on the glass. My question is, do you thing that with this system I can remove the bite of the small pebbles that leave traces on my windshield?

I dont think you can remove chips this this process. PPF might be useful to help protect your new windshield

Might seem counter to what you read but try a very firm foam pad and the heaviest cutting compound you have. Always a rotary and not too fast but lots of pressure. 15-1800 rpm. Cerium oxide is just too slow and I've watched people go at it for an hour and not make any progress in correcting. With the hard foam and a heavy cut you will correct and you've probably already got the materials. I've tried everything and to me the hard foam pad is absolutely critical. Rayon pads will polish glass nicely but they don't want to cut a whole lot. I finish with 1.2 micron cerium oxide and a rayon but if I need to correct I'd never use it.

Does a DA polisher work as well or does it have to be a rotary?
@steveclarke8814
@steveclarke8814 4 ай бұрын
To be pedantic a DA is dual action, random orbital and lockable to just rotary. But to answer without being a dick random orbital will work but not very well, rotary all the way

Really? It's Mike Phillips thoughh, the knowledge passed through years of experience. Vrg, rotary, glass, technique. Aslong as what he's saying pertains to that. If one was smart theyd listen.

But it's quality talk. If you didn't listen you could've done it yourself instead of having a friend and doing it twice as fast. As for literally step by step what you have to do, yeah, this video is too long. But then I came in as a newbie. Do you wanna say what he says is bs? It would be great if you specify, just to make sure. And yeah - I write long comments, but by the same token, I think it's quality 😉
