I did the same on my sportie , except I used nitro morse first to get rid if the lacquer. I also never sealed them with clear lacquer, that was 8 years and 30k miles ago . A bit of autosol every now and again and they stay fine .

All you see is him sanding the big flat spots. I do this alot and there is ALOT more work getting inside the bumps and groves. This is very time consuming. I use a medium wire where on a bench grinder, seems to be the fastest and easiest way to clean them in all the corners and groves with no solutions needed. Even my way requires a die grinder with a medal wheel to get into some smaller corners.
