Hey brother. Hope all is going well. Im in desperate need of some advice. Im having trouble with a subaru timing belt. If you have a few minutes to chat between now and tomorrow morning id be forever greatful. I dont have a network of other mechanics in my area. When you are mobile is all on you with nobody to help. Great job brother,another tip would be to use the hard key that is built in to the fob. It’s released by a small button that works as a detent for the key at the end where it loops for a keyring. The keyhole is next to the trunk release and the key acts as a doorknob in a way. That’s another way to open the trunk of a dead bmw and in case you don’t have the tools on hand it works in a pinch. Keep fighting the good fight my brother in wrenches ❤🔧👨🏽‍🔧

Another very good-to-know tip: Federal regulations require cars sold in the US to have a mechanical means to open the trunk from inside the vehicle. The idea was to provide a way to escape in case of being locked inside. If you can get inside the cab; lower the backs to the rear seats so that you can get into the trunk. The mechanical latch is somewhere in there, usually in the rear panel close to the center of the trunk. I prefer the same jump method you used. This is just more of a PSA for people to remember in case they're ever kidnapped, lol.

The seats can only be folded down from the trunk

German engineering doesn’t let you fold the backseats from inside the cabin… you can, however, remove the rear speaker, dig through the foam, and twist a black seat release cable with a pair of pliers to release the seat

BMW sedans I believe up until this model had optional folding rear seats in sedans, with base models having solid rear seats. Behind the seat is a solid piece of sheet metal, not possible to fold or access the trunk in any way. Only a majority of the coupes had foldable rear seats.

The key blade is in the fob on most bmw/ Mercedes I'm a euro specialist tech and it was a life saver to figure that out lol

Bmw requires the battery to be programmed otherwise it will overcharge the battery

Why not just jump it and let the alternator charge it what I do on mine when it dies jump it from the front but you can use the key in the truck as well
