@@Incompetent_Matt Ye u must go to virtual machine in port forwarding make one and then should work, but ur internet provider can not allow port forwarding as it was in my case, first ask your provider if they allow port forwarding cuz if not u will losse many hours figuringh it out sry if i write like dumb fuck but im at a party cheers

I've been trying to get a little server set up for me and two other people and it seems like most sites/videos I've tried to look at that explain setting up a Minecraft server tend to either skip explaining this step or hide it in so much word salad that I can't keep reading/listening because nearly everything said has nothing to do with what I want for a simple little server. I've been trying for years to set up a server, forward the ports, allow exceptions for firewalls, etc all with no success. Externally checking the ports always says that the "connection is timed out", and to this day I just can't figure out what the heck is blocking.

If you use the ipconfig from the command prompt, you can copy and paste the default gateway numbers into your browser.

Hey, great video! I have a couple of questions on issues I'm having though. 1 - In my ipconfig, my IPv4 address does not match what every search on all the sites comes up with. 2 - Also, my Link Local IPv6 address is a long number starting with fe80:: (eg, it's not all numbers) and every website I go to says it's "not detected". Will that address work? I have read that some providers are taking their time getting to IPv6. But I have also seen people, running minecraft servers for many years using IPv6. Or can you share a server without IPv6? 3 - If I get all this to work, do I need to allow port-forwarding on both my Ethernet modem and the WiFi plugged into it that I use, or does it all have to be Ethernet? I'd appreciate any input; I've really been wanting to do this for years and I have my server created and ready to share!

when I google what is my ip the results are always my Public Ipv6 rather than an Ipv4, and none of the website yielded a different result.

hey, if you are still having troubles with this, you might wanna get a paid server host, so you dont have to portforward it yourself

Hello, TroubleChute. I know i'm a bit late but i've been encountering issues, i had earlier tried to post forward, but it seems that i messed something up. I can't connect to my server and got an issue saying "connection refused" i asked one of my friends to join and he said that it was "connection timed out" Before i messed something up, pre postforwarding, i was able to join my server from both 127.0.01 and localhost, yet now whenever i try either of these i get the connection refused issue. I have followed all the steps in this video, yet i still get the same issue. I wanted to know if anyone could help me or is familiar with this issue. Thanks

go to your start menu and enter cmd, this will take you to a command prompt window. type ipconfig and enter. this will show you your ip, you wanna take note of the IPv4. then use that info and follow along the video

I can't, I've seen so many tutorials, but none have helped me. I did it step by step until the time came when you copy the router's ip and try to enter the world, I couldn't. :(

Check your router's GUI again. Maybe you have to enable port forwarding as well? My first time I couldn't join despite having entered all the ports and stuff. I just had to enable port forwarding to have it work.
