Thanks Kevin! That second one is different. I'm having to practice the carry on my 85 lbs canoe.

Teepee Method is WAY easier (& more elegant) if you face same way as yoke (from the stern) so you can bounce forward into it (rather than backing up). Love your channel Mr Happy Camper! Hey - you should get your daughter to demo it!

My second portage trip ever was Rock lake to Louisa Lake. 2895 metres. That was an eye opening trip! At least I now know I can do shorter portages haha!

Agree dished carry yokes are waaay better. Still sucks though hahaha. Thanks Mr Callan. Edit - one of my favourite parts of the trips are the walk back (empty shouldered) to get the canoe / pack.. no single carries for this fella.

Hey Kevin, what aftermarket yoke do you prefer? The contoured yolk that came with my canoe always feels like it is going to slip backwards off my shoulders. Thanks!

Hi Kevin, I just found your channel and have a question for you. What makes a good river canoe? I expect to encounter fallen logs and other obstacles.

Second method is easier if you shimmy up from the rear. I have a 70 lb canoe.

Great job on this and other recent videos! You are going through a 'how to' phase. You have lots to share.

Yep. I thought it would be good to change it up a bit. Doing more trip videos in a couple of weeks.

The one thing I didn’t realize or know when I got a detachable yoke is that I can no longer use the proper technique because lifting the weight of the canoe with the yoke is too risky for the attachment piece (could break where the bolt screws in. I guess there’s always a price to pay. Any suggestions?

How do we carry the paddles if we dont have a loyal pup?

You forgot the part when you get the canoe on your shoulders, the water that trickles down your back! LOL!

Is that a Nova Craft prospector? His favourite canoe? I really wish Kevin would explain more details in some of his vids. Weight of a canoe matters but the length and width would matter more in doing this by yourself.

So what if it doesn’t have a yoke but just a seat? My 4.80 meter fibreglass 3 person canoe weights almost 40 kilo (about 82 lbs I think?) and my back isn’t the best.

Great educational video. The repetition was great. What do you think go Grumman canoes - are they worth the investment? Michael from Alberta

I have a Grumman I've had for years.. it was made in the 60's and other then some minor dents, still works great, no leaks etc :)

Kevin, do you have a video on carrying a solo canoe. My Bell Merlin II lands with a bank on my head!! It gets a tad challenging as I adjust it. I don't have a lot of arm strength to push the weight of the canoe above my head and adjust it so that the seat is resting on my shoulders. I have no difficulty taking the canoe off. I have tried your second method and it is just a tad easier, but still requires that arm strength to walk my hands into position. I find I am using my head to help me manage!!! Eeeeek!!! Don't want to damage anything inside this old noggin!!

You could try the alternative lift but from the back of the canoe, with the bow touching the ground?

Hi!! Do you put a rope in the front and in the back to keep the balance or just the front?

Just the front.

which yoke do you recommend for a nova prospector 16
@TheHappyCamper Жыл бұрын
I prefer Teal yokes. They fit well - much deeper than most others.

Good instruction video. How do you like the Prospector in aramid lite? I’m 66, still doing solo trips (7-10day), and want to purchase a 15 ft Prospector but can’t decide between tuff stuff or aramid lite. It would be nice to have the lighter canoe for portages, I do mainly lake to lake in Quetico and BWCAW.
@TheHappyCamper3 жыл бұрын
If you're sticking to mostly lake travel then go with the arimid lite. It's even lighter without a paint colour added.
